T2, good choice!

The Mummy [Returns] by Stephen Sommers is one of my favorite film series. I LOVE the chemistry between Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz

Never got around to it with the internet being out, but updated the watch thread with the next weekend category.

Great Caps, I loved the first two Mummy movies, after that, without Rachel as Evie, it wasn't for me.

I never bothered with 'Tomb of the Dragon Emperor'. Liked Mario Bello in Coyote Ugly, but as Evie? I can't bear re-casts.

Also, the idea of anyone but Rachel partnering Brendan in these films is ridiculous. They were the perfect pair.

That's what bothered me. I like Maria Bello as an actress but being recast in a role that is already known for two films?

I refuse to acknowledge any other actors playing Rick and Evie. Brendan and Rachel were them from the beginning, and grew as the characters in the sequel. It's very telling when you look up 'Tomb of the Dragon Emperor' on Wikipedia and see how many casting/filming changes that the film went through -

In 2006, both Brendan and Rachel were ready to sign on for the movie but the following year, Rachel reportedly cited "problems with the script" and having just given birth as her reasons for not returning. Note that Stephen Sommers had just departed as Director, which could be a valid reason for Rachel not wanting to return.

I agree. And didn't they use their son as a grown up in a later film too?

So I've heard

It's similar to how I feel about Rachel Dawes being re-cast between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Both actresses are good (Holmes and Gyllenhaal), yet the portrayals are so different that you can't connect with the character in the same way. When Bruce refers to their romantic moments together in BB in scenes with Maggie's Rachel, it just feels so uncomfortable, as she didn't experience those moments - Katie did.

Speaking of Batman, I just came across this poll Should Tim Burton and Michael Keaton Make A Third Batman?

...They are aware that this collaboration happened in the 80's, right?

I preferred Katie

Maggie's portrayal seemed more... I don't know, formal I guess. I liked Katie bringing more of a balance playing her as someone who you could imagine being Bruce's childhood friend. She had more of a playfulness to her that I think was needed for Rachel, especially in the first movie.

That said, I can only picture Maggie suiting Aaron in their on-screen romance

I just thought Katie's role was overshadowed at the time because of the newness of her relationship with Tom and I found it irritating.

Cobra (1986) and The Expendables collection. Sylvester Stallone blows me away everytime I watch these movies and I don't regret anything.

Re-reading this thread makes me realize how long it's been since I saw the Stephen Sommers' MUMMY movies and I have to do a re-watch soon

Brendan and Rachel were so special together.
