I loved this issue of The Avengers when I was a kid. :love: This was an Avengers vs. X-Men issue, and Hank Pym is once again prominently featured as Giant-Man with Janet as The Wasp. :D Captain America and Thor weren't even with them at this point.

No, sum1. :lol: As I've explained before, I got into comics because of my mom, who had a collection of comics in her closet. :nod: This issue was published in 1968, two years before I was born. Mom had it in her stack of comics that she kept in her closet. I was reading them in the late 70's as a kid.

As a kid I read early '70s Marvel comics belonging to my mother's brothers. There were also British reprints of '60s and '70s Marvel comics. That's apart from stuff from the time I was reading.

Yep, I was born the year The Beatles broke up, Apollo 13 went haywire, Jimi Hendrix died, the Kent State shootings happened, Patton, Love Story, M*A*S*H, and Airport came out in cinemas, John Pertwee took over as Doctor Who, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Odd Couple debuted on TV, the NFL and AFL merged, and Monday Night Football debuted on ABC. :lol:

Yeah, my mom kept a stack of comics in her closet, and some were also still in the house she grew up in, which I read whenever I went to visit my grandparents. I have no idea why mom was the comic book fan, but she proved that girls like comics too. :lol: She had some DC comics, mostly Superman, Batman, and Justice League(and a cool Green Lantern/Green Arrow team up comic with Hal Jordan and Oliver Queen), and another comic called Blackhawk about an Air Force team, although I forget if it was WWI, WWII, or present day. But she leaned heavily towards Marvel comics, mostly Spider-Man, Daredevil, The Avengers, Fantastic Four, The Silver Surfer, Guardians of the Galaxy(the original 33rd century team), Captain Marvel, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, etc.

Mom also really liked Marvel's Conan The Barbarian and Red Sonja comics, which I thought were good, but also really scary and violent. I also loved the way they drew the women in those comics. :lol: And she also liked Marvel's Star Wars comic series. Damn, I miss reading those old comics. :love: She never collected X-Men, which is probably why I knew the least about them growing up, aside from the occasional crossover with The Avengers, the Fantastic Four, or Spider-Man.

My mother read Marvel superhero comics too when she was a teenager, but I don't think she actually owned any of her own, just borrowed them. My father has always scorned all things superhro and his idea of an acceptable comic is one without pictures, such as apparently existed over here when he was a kid.

Yeah, my dad didn't like comics either. :lol: He liked books, mostly historical dramas about the Civil War and World War II, spy novels, stuff like that. But he did like science fiction movies. :nod: My mom was into comics as well as science fiction novels like the Dune series, and medieval European fantasy novels about Arthurian legends or anything with dragons, castles, knights, sorceresses, etc. She also loved Stephen King books. :D I'd say I'm a mix of the two of them.

My father is more a War and Peace (the novel) type person. I read some of that myself during my teens. I prefer Dostoyevsky to Tolstoy, though. And Clarke Ashton Smith and Edgar Allan Poe to Dostoyevsky. Dostoyevsky was a big Poe fan. My mother reads a wide range of things. She liked Dune too, but agrees with my view that Frank Herbert should have stuck to the one Dune book and not continued the series and run the story into the ground.

Yeah, I agree that Dune definitely went on too long. I saw the sci-fi channel version as well as David Lynch's 1984 version. I actually felt sorry for Irulan in the sci-fi version and I wished that she and Paul could've ended up together in Children of Dune. :lol: I like her a lot better than Chani and thought Julie Cox had better chemistry with Alec Newman. :nod: At least they had one really good kissing scene before Paul left Arrakeen and went into the desert. :make_out: And of course, James McAvoy was Paul's son, Leto. :D
