Oh, correction! She DOES play Vin's love interest. Carla was suppossed to play her role, but it apparently fell through. This comes froms someone on IMDB who knows one of the actors playing one of the kids I think.

ETA: An early script review. Basically, it's predictable family friendly fare, and it's success depends on Vin's comedic skills. Safe to say if Lauren does indeed play his love interest, they'll probably end up together in the end.

The Stax Report: Script Review of The Pacifier
Vin Diesel's new comedy from the director of Bringing Down the House!

February 05, 2004 - Stax here with my reaction to the screenplay for The Pacifier! This Buena Vista-based project will star Vin Diesel and be directed by Adam Shankman (Bringing Down the House) from a script by actor-screenwriters Thomas Lennon and and Robert Ben Garant (both of Comedy Central's Reno 911!). According to Variety, the Spyglass Entertainment project begins filming this April in Los Angeles.

Some minor SPOILERS follow but there's nothing that the trailer won't end up revealing, I assure you:

The Pacifier is a comedy about Navy Seal Lt. Shane Wolfe (Diesel) who goes on his most complicated and perilous mission yet: child care. After leading a failed operation to rescue kidnapped government scientist Charles Plummer, Shane is given a chance to redeem himself by undertaking a new mission.

Shane's commander, Capt. Bill Fawcett, informs him that the bad guys who kidnapped Plummer were after GHOST, a top-secret computer program that the scientist was working on.

This "McGuffin" is believed to be hidden somewhere in Fawcett's suburban home although searches have so far proven fruitless. Shane's mission is to protect the Plummer family from the bad guys who are still after GHOST.

The Plummer family includes mom Julie, eldest teenage daughter Zoe, the sullen and artistically inclined Todd, precocious six year-old Lulu, toddler Peter, and baby Bobby. They also have a Romanian housekeeper named Helga.

Julie leaves her kids in Shane's charge after learning that a safety deposit box her husband kept in Switzerland might contain GHOST. Shane can establish a perimeter and kick tail but this Seal is completely unprepared for what follows: taking care of children and doing housework.

In learning about kids the hard way, our tough guy protagonist softens up. He also finds what has been missing in his life (a family) and they in return discover a surrogate father figure. Naturally, Shane's military prowess proves handy when the villains finally come looking for GHOST. (That's not surprising, is it?)

The Pacifier is the quintessential high-concept comedy. What if xXx's Xander Cage parachuted into Daddy Day Care? The script runs solely on that one-note but not entirely unappealing premise. I never actually laughed when I read it but I did crack a grin a few times.

Such comedic vehicles usually live or die based on which star it has been tailored for. Arnold Schwarzenegger was able to make the leap to high-concept comedy (with Twins and Kindergarten Cop) but Sylvester Stallone was not. (Bruce Willis came from a sitcom background so his challenge was in making the leap to action films.) The Rock seems to have a natural flair for comedy not that it's helped him much at the box office. We know Vin Diesel can be tough and surly but can he also make us laugh? The effectiveness of this script's humor depends on that.

Was The Pacifier formulaic and predictable? Yes, right down to its obligatory diaper changing scene. But there was some heart there, too. The seemingly indomitable Shane Wolfe (as in lone wolf?) is actually a vulnerable, sensitive teddy bear. Sure, it's all very pat but such stories rely on simplicity.

The Pacifier should likely connect with general audiences who just want to snack on familiar junk food for a few hours. In the immortal words of Jon Lovitz as Harvey Fierstein, is that so wrong? – STAX
I was reading a message board of international Vin fans and they were talking about Lauren (from this pic) and the fact that they like he's got a love interest who isn't 20, and who's actually closer to his age. They also said she looked like Catherine Zeta Jones.

Which she sort of does in that picture. But hey, nothing wrong with looking like her. She's beautiful.

Thanks for posting the script review, Alexis.

I told Nonob (my sister who doesn't get the LG obsession) about this movie and she's finally excited abouta Lauren project. She still thinks Vin Diesel is hot...again, proving why she's the black sheep of the family.

Well there is black sheep in very family. Anyway, maybe Lauren's charisma will help me like Vin but I doubt that.

I've never really seen Vin act, so I can't comment. With Lauren in the movie, I'm sure it's going to be good. At least we know Lauren will be good.

Vin Diesel was mentioned the other night in one of the local tv news stations that featured star sightings in Toronto. Could Lauren be far behind?

As has been metioned earlier in this thread, shooting of The Pacifierstarts first week of May. I decided to check out the set at Costco yesterday. Took me 2 bus rides, 40 minutes and some waiting time (I don't drive). Right before my stop, I glance to my left and I see this bunch of small trailers - the type that houses cast and crew - behind a small commercial building under construction. The area, about a block away from Costco is transformed into a virtual trailer park. I knew then there indeed was a movie shoot.
I get off the bus, doing a walk-run combo towards the set. Rodeo Dr. is in back of Costco where I go past 4 big trailers housing tons of cables & movie equipment. My heart does the pounding-and-stop combo as I rush towards the store. A thousand thoughts danced in my mind. Am I going to see Lauren? What am I gonna say or do. Blah, blah, blah. Right outside (beside the entrance) is the set. There's a sign that says:

Movie on location @ Costco
Mon, May 3rd
Tue, May 4th
Wed, May 5th
Business as Usual

I got there around 5:30pm. Two cameras are set up close to the set where 4 girl brownies behind a long table rehearse a scene pretending they're selling cookies to a bunch of extras. On the wall behind them, and in front of the table are banners that say Fireflies in green letters. So they do a couple of rehearsals then a few takes while some extras come in and out of Costco with shopping carts.

I stand there, a few feet away trying to figure out how to get info, i.e. if it really was the TP shoot, is Lauren here, or Vin Diesel perhaps?. I got my confirmation that it was TP alright when I saw the clapper. It was a bit chilly and I my jacket wasn't warm enough so I decided to go inside the store. I go in but a Costco lady stops me dead on my tracks and asks for my membership card. Told her I didn't have any. She points me to the area where I could get a day pass. I certainly wouldn't get a membership card especially since I don't drive and I live quite far so what's the point.

Anyways, the store isquite busy. The extras and their carts, about 5 of them, wait for their cue while I hang out close by for a bit. Fearing I'd be tossed out of the store, I decide to head towards the pass/membership card counter. IT's the first time I ever set foot in there so I'm totally clueless about the process and structure of the building. As I walk on, I see this small food court. Since it's close to dinner time I decide to grab a bite to eat. I figure it's cheaper than getting a membership card.

After I finish my meal I walk towards the exit area clutching my drink where another Costco lady checks out customer receipts. Customer traffic is held up while the shoot begins. A lady TP staff listens to instructions in her walkie-talkie and yells out the cue. A moment of lull ensues and I grab the chance to sidle up to her. Feigning innocence, I go and ask her.

Me: So, what is this movie you're shooting?

Her: It's called The Pacifier.

Me: (Subtly) Oh, that's the one with Vin Diesel, right?

Her: Yes Before I could squeeze out more info, her walkie-talkie goes off and she starts to do customer traffic.

She pleasantly apoligizes to the long line of customers for the delay due to the ongoing movie shoot. A man asks her what the hold up is about. She explains they're shooting the movie TP outside with some kids, kinda like the Kindergarten Cop movie. She goes on to say they're shooting some scenes at Costco and the guy seems perplexed about this so she explains Costco was specifically written into the script and that they're doing the action scenes in some place that I could hardly hear. I thought I heard her say Florida. I'm pretty sure it wasn't Vancouver. I try to pipe in but the Costco lady at the entrance starts to question my presence. I tell her I'm waiting for my cousins. She asks if I had gone inside the warehouse. Told her I just got as far as the food court. Then she tells me to have my backpack checked out. Immediately after, I decide to go outside lest I get kicked out or charged with loitering or something.

The kid actors now rehearse a "fight" scene. Three girls stand in front of the table cheering on another girl cartwheeling over a boy scout down on all fours then pulling his left hands behind his back after which the she sits on his back with a triumphant smile on her face. They go over this a couple of times through the help of a stunt instructor.

As I watch from a fairly good distance, I spot a lady staff eating pizza and I go with my now famous intro lines:

Me: So, what's this movie you're shooting now? Her: It's The Pacifier.

Me: (My other famous follow up question) With Vin Diesel?

Her: Yeah

Me: and also Lauren Graham, right?

Her: She nods and goes I believe that's her name.

Me: Are you shooting some scenes with Vin Diesel?

Her: No, just the kids.

Me: But he's in town, right? (As if I didn't know. Just a couple a nights before, his name was mentioned in the stars sightings segment of the 6 o'clcock news).

Her: Yeah...

Me: (Trying not to sound giddy) What about Lauren? Before she could answer, someone yells out to us onlookers (practically just me and two other ladies) to move back a little.

So I continue to watch the scene - rehearses and takes - while scanning the entire area for Lauren, including allcvehicles close and far to the set. Boy, was it freezing, wind chill and all. Poor kids in their brownie and boy scout uniforms. In between rehearsals and takes the staff would rush to hand them blankets and jackets.

Needless to say, there wasn't any Lauren at all. The clapper says take 7 or was it (8?). As soon as I heard someone yell check the gate I knew it was time to call it a day. After nearly freezing to death for over a couple of hours it's time to head home. But I'll be back today. Who knows, Lauren might just show up. I know for sure Faith Ford isn't in town because she was just at Regis & Kelly Live (unless it was taped earlier). I'm not giving up hope that I'd see Lauren. I gave up the chance to see see her at the SMASH talk due to the SARS scare. I'm counting on my lucky stars to make this happen. You bet I'm I'll be back here for a full report. Wish me luck!

I saw the View yesterday and they showed clips of guests for this week. They showed the girl from Bachelor, then Lauren (one where she was wearing a black blazer from her 2nd interview, I believe).

Sorry took me this long to post again. I just got back from a road trip to New York which is an entirely different story. Anyhow, here’s the rest of my TP movie shoot coverage at Costco...

Day 2, May 4th. I arrive at 4:30pm. The scene is set on the parking lot on the left side of Costco. They rehearse the scene 4 times. Two adorable little boys (twins) arrive in a van together with their mom. While waiting for their cue, the boys play baseball with a member of the crew. The boys, I find out later, play the kids that Vin Diesel’s character is taking care of. There are more onlookers now, mostly teens who apparently are Vin Diesel fans. They badger one of the production staff about VD. When is Vin Diesel arriving? Will he be coming in on a motorbike? Will Vin Diesel come and greet us. Can we approach him? Can we take a picture with him? etc. Turns out I’m the only Lauren fan there.

About half an hour later, a heavily tinted huge SUV pulls into the parking lot and minutes later out comes Vin Diesel. The teenage fans get excited and start to call out his name. Immediately after getting off his SUV, the production hover around him, take off the winter coat he was wearing and had him wear a lighter jacket and a belt with baby paraphernalia hanging on all sides, i.e. milk bottles, pacifier, etc. A costume person carries a real baby in a carrier that she made VD wear. The scene calls for a driving instructor teaching a student driver who keeps hitting the breaks every so often then loses control of the wheel and screams while VD stands by the minivan while holding the milk bottle for the baby. This took three takes.

After the last take, VD walks to the monitor and watches the playback with the director. Minutes after he walks to our direction and the girls go wild. VD isn’t that huge as I thought he would be. One of the men watching the shoot said so too. VD was all smiles, thanking everyone for coming. He shakes their hands and when he came to me, he grabbed my hand as well. One girl asks his permission to hug him, which he obliged. Everyone took out cameras. I did have a camera with me but I couldn’t care less for VD. I mean, he was nice but I was there for Lauren. A few minutes later he excuses himself to change for the next scene, jumps into his van and disappears from the parking lot.

I asked one of the crew when Lauren’s scenes would be shot. Strangely enough, she didn’t know who Lauren was. Nor did she know Faith Ford. She says the movie is primarily a Vin Diesel movie and that there may not be a love interest. She did know there's teacher and a principal. I told her Lauren could be the principal. I didn’t wait for the next scene as it was getting late and they have yet to set up everything. They were to mount a camera on a crane in front of Costco and take a wide shot of the next scene and VD would be back then. I just wasn't interested.

Day 3, May 5th. I arrive 12:30 p.m. They shot scenes with six girls in brownie uniforms right outside Costco. They shot some scenes with Vin Diesel shopping inside the store at 4 this morning. I didn’t’ bother coming over. I didn’t wait for the next scene anymore as I was preparing for a road trip.

Here’s some info I gathered from one of the production staff: They wrap up the Costco scenes on May 5th then they go back to the studio in Toronto. They’re shooting TP in Toronto for 70 days after which they fly to Florida for a couple of weeks to shoot the action scenes. If anyone knows anything about TP shooting schedule in and around Toronto, post them here. I’ll keep an eye on the next location and possibly drop by the set.

I felt very stalkerish being on the set the entire three days. So as not to be obvious, I wore three different jackets and hats and stayed a couple of hours. It's a shame Lauren wasn't around. She would've loved having the trailers parked just a stone's throw away from a Krispie Kreme outlet.

mmmm.. Krispie Kreme!

So Lauren's character is Vin's character's love interest, right? This could turn out to be really interesting.

Ellevee , I sure hope you see Lauren out on that set. Good luck!

Diesel fuels Keys movie

Commission set to OK film times

Hoping to film parts of the major motion picture "The Pacifier" in Key West, the movie's production company is asking for the city's permission to film on the White Street Pier and in parts of the Truman Waterfront.

"The portions of this film slated for Key West are action packed," movie location manager Elizabeth Elwell said in a letter to City Manager Julio Avael, noting plans to land a helicopter at the end of the White Street Pier. "The filming is currently scheduled to begin on Monday, July 19, at Sugarloaf Key for one day, then begin filming at White Street Pier for approximately four days, then the cafeteria at Truman Annex on July 24."

The movie, which stars Vin Diesel, has been filming in Toronto.

This is how Elwell explained the plot:

"Shane Wolfe [Diesel] is a Navy S.E.A.L. who, after failing to protect an important government scientist, learns the man's family is in danger. In an effort to redeem himself, Wolfe agrees to take care of the man's children only to discover that child care is his toughest mission yet."

Also starring in the film are Lauren Graham from "The Gilmore Girls," Faith Ford from "Hope and Faith" and "Murphy Brown, Brad Garrett from "Everybody Loves Raymond, and "American Dreams" starts Brittany Snow and Max Thieriot.

Filming would close off pedestrian access to the pier during takes, and may stop traffic during shots to limit the noise picked up by the movie microphones.

"However, at all times, the public would be allowed to watch from the shoreline during our filming," Elwell noted.

Sequences at the Truman Waterfront are to include interior shots of a hospital room, a structure the film crew will assemble and disassemble. Since there is no power on the site, generators would be used for the set.

Pacifier Productions Inc. would pay the city a $10,000 base fee for filming, and pay any additional charges, such as overtime and materials, incurred by any city department during the filming process, including public works, fire and police.

The City Commission is set to approve the agreement at its meeting tonight, at 6 p.m. at Old City Hall.

Ahhh, fun. So I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner, but I was looking at Showfax when it occurried to me, hey, the have movie sides! I wonder if they have any for The Pacifier? They do! I don't personally have access to the sides, but there is one in particular "Principal Claire" that some Lauren aficionados with access to sides might be interested in sharing? *begs* It'd be cool to read some of Lauren's lines before the movie comes out...which is you know, next summer.

And can we talk about how funny it is that back to back her character is named Claire? First Seeing Other People, and now in The Pacifier. Ironic.

ETA: Of course they were put up in January so no promise that they're even accessible now, but at least we probably learned her character's name!
