Having completed several rewatches, I can say I now fall in to that camp and appreciate him and Dawn much more than I did originally, the two characters most universally disliked by the fandom.

Yes it is, but that's me. I don't usually ... well half of the time go with the majority.

Dawn... doesn't matter how many re-watches I watch, I'll never warm up to her. Although I can say, of all seasons: Season 5 is probably where I could relate to her the most.

S5 is an excellent season overall IMO.

Agreed! it really recovered after the not so great Season 4.

That's great. I honestly feel like he is a good character, I understand people not liking him for shipping reasons, or people just finding him boring & that's why they don't like him - but the full out hate he gets is just way ott imo. You'd think that he walked around kicking puppies or something

I liked his dorky side personally, like when he went to ask Willow how to ask Buffy out & he got all awkward

& I do think that he was quite sweet with Willow in that ep too, like when he made them stop the music

I agree with you on that... I am happy I never let shipping preference get in the middle of my favorite characters. lol or let it decide which character to like or dislike.

Me too, especially on a show like this where it's really not all about ships at all. All the characters are very well developed & you can understand each of their own motives even if you don't like their actions. To make it all about ships is just a waste of such a great series imo.

This is why I've come to like Riley much more now, I may not always like or agree with his actions sometimes, but I understand them.

Yeah, you can always see where he's coming from - & it's really hard to fail to see that he was always trying to do the right thing, but he just had so many different influences telling him what the 'right' thing was. He was just doing the best that he could.

Riley is a much under appreciated character in my opinion, of people could put their bias aside.

I don't mind people not liking him, I just wish that the majority of people who hate him would admit that it's because of who they ship & not because he's some awful character
