Exactly, Elijah wasn't even awake when he did this! Elijah's mind was shattered and he was buried deep within a thousand years of horrific dark memories, he didn't even realize it was Hayley he was attacking so how can he possibly be held accountable for it?
Imo if Klaus can get away with all the horrific things he's done then Elijah should get a pass on this. Also, let's not forget that Hayley's no angel either.
Elijah and Hayley have both done unspeakable things but they make each other better and that's what makes a great couple - when the individual characters are better together than they are apart.
