Star Wars Rogue One #1 [2016] - May contain spoilers!
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, also known simply as Rogue One, is an upcoming live-action Star Wars film, the first in the Star Wars Anthology Series. The film, set for release on December 16, 2016, is directed by Gareth Edwards and produced by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, amongst many others. Gary Whitta worked on the first draft of the screenplay throughout 2014, and Chris Weitz took over final screenwriting duties in 2015. The film is based on a story concept from John Knoll, Chief Creative Officer/Senior Visual Effects Supervisor of Industrial Light & Magic. The film's score is composed by Alexandre Desplat, marking the first live-action film in the official Star Wars canon to not be scored by John Williams. Rogue One stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, and Alan Tudyk. Genevieve O'Reilly reprises her role as Mon Mothma, the leader of the Rebel Alliance; O'Reilly portrayed the character for 2005's Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, but her scenes were cut. The film, which began production in August 2015, is set between Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. It is set closer to the latter film and focuses on the efforts of the Rebel Alliance to steal the plans to the Death Star, an event that was referenced in the opening crawl of A New Hope. Jyn Erso, played by Jones, and a group of other characters band together to steal the plans from the Galactic Empire. Edwards has described the film as a grounded, war-based movie, one in which normal people have to come together to fight the Empire as opposed to relying on the Jedi or the Force. __________________

Keeping this one topped instead of the TFA one right now, since TFA DVD came out and that was the date we agreed on to untop it.

Looks good. Felicity Jones looks like she's doing a good job. Her character comes off kind of like I hoped Rey would. She looks like she's doing a much better performance than Daisy Ridley. Punchier, more personality. Forest Whitaker is always good. The film looks more businesslike than TFA. Maybe it helps that it focuses on non-force users, instead of flashy lightsaber stuff.

I'm really excited for this movie and its strong cast. I also kinda think we might get to see Vader once again!

It definitely seems more "grounded", and less mythical in a way. Reminded me a bit of Battlestar Galactica which is always a good thing.

More grounded is better. The OT was more grounded than TFA.

It would make sense for us to see Vader again, I think. Maybe not as a central villain like he was in the previous films, but to just never see him wouldn't make sense for continuity purposes I think.

He doesn't need to be central but if we could get him walking into a room or something that would be badass.

Honestly, I feel like overall this movie will need a LOT of strong writing and acting to make me believe in it without the OT actors around, but I'm very open minded, especially considering the strong cast and the fact that it might give us some answers.

I don't know about believing in it, I'm not likely to consider anything beyond the OT to be real Star Wars, but I think it could be damn good non-canon.

I'm getting bored of Marvel superheroes. I enjoyed the last Avengers film, but the Marvel films tend to be so shallow, it's barely worth it to watch them.
