I think Steph meant that he was an addict long before Spud went to jail instead of him, and that it's his own fault for getting hooked in the first place.

I've read the book. It doesn't say which of the group was the first to do drugs. But it does make a point in saying Renton is a smart guy who does drugs because he's bored.

He also has a brother in the book. He had two brothers actually, but one died. __________________

yea, in terms of the movie he was an only child. I wasn't really mad that his brothers got deleted, but I do feel it changes the reasons he started doing drugs in the first place. Or it at least gives more insight into why he did the things he did. Renton is less moral in the book, and that's saying something.

Well, he had two brothers. One died long before the book starts and another dies during the story. The brother that dies has a pregnant girlfriend and Renton has sex with the pregnant girlfriend during his brother's funeral. I consider that to show he is even less moral than MovieRenton.

oh well thankgod they didn't show it
first up i was dead set against watching this film you see its rated R in my country and well i kinda hate R rated films but i took a chance at it the first full length R rated film i watched i actually kind of liked it my mum told me to get more mature films and i got this she laughed  __________________
