I'm sure if you really wanted to watch them you'd watch your DVDs whenever you wanted, so no biggie.

Well, that is why I won't ever sell/donate the DVDs.

Ah, that's not too bad. Thought maybe you had hundreds in storage.

I think I did... because they didn't even have the original music.

Storage is a scam.

Not having the original music still bums me out.

The packaging was nice, though.

Ah, figured you had someplace in your room or house where you store things you don't use regularly, if at all, but don't want to throw away, either, like a garage, closet, etc.

Oh wait, you didn't mean storage like one of those storage facilities on the side of a road?

We have cabinets and closets and draws but not enough to hold everything

The entire house is storage.

Storage only works for people who live in tiny apartments, or are in between moves.

Is "draws" a NY thing? Cause that's how we pronounce it.

I say it like the first American accent. You say it the British way. They drop Rs in a lot of words. Reminds me of the Boston accent. Interesting that you spell it draw, though. What is a drawer mean to you when you see it? Or do you think people are just misspelling the furniture item?

Quote:
I was born and raised in Long Island, NY. I moved to Florida when I was 14, so as such I retained much of my accent (much to everyone's dismay).

I know the terms for many of the mergers/splits/distinctions/shifts, but the one that eludes me is saying draw for drawer. Everyone calls me out on it, and I would love to know the linguistic feature that specifies it.

Any ideas?
Quote:
Some areas in the US do pronounce the word “drawers” like “draws” (New Jersey), and British accents also tend to minimize the “r” sound.
Quote:
I think that's a more general New England thing, honestly. I've met people from New Jersey and Maine with the same pronunciations.
Quote:
Those who grew up in MA, is saying the word 'drawer' as 'draw' a feature of the Boston/Massachusetts Accent? Everywhere else in the country people seem to say it 'droor'.

For context, I grew up in the Fall River/New Bedford area (so southeast MA). My entire family was also born and raised in that area. Everyone in my family pronounces the word 'draw,' same as they would pronounce the verb. I didn't learn how most people pronounce it until I spoke with some people not from the area in high school. I'm trying to figure out if this pronunciation is a strange quirk of my family, or is actually a standard part of the accent.
