I'm not so sure, Legolas was younger in the Hobbit, but just less than 100 years younger, not thousands and thousands of years, like it would be in this case for Thranduil.

Too bad that Legolas' birth is set in the third age, so he cannot be in the series
 He is 2931 years old in LOTR, 2871 in the Hobbit (it was set 60 years before LOTR, when Bilbo was 50  )But Thranduil can be in the series imo  Tho, he moves to the Greenwood from Lindon in the first millennium of the second age...__________________

If Nori & the Stranger go through the Greenwood they could meet with Thranduil...
... or if the dwarfs have to move out of Moria - but I don't remember whether that happens in the 2nd or the 3rd Age that they move from Moria to the Lonely Mountains - at least some of Durin's folk... ... If Lee wants to be part of ROP, I'm sure that they would find a way to include him somehow... __________________

I flashforward would also work for me...
... and also just because they stayed away from the movie actors, it doesn't mean that no one from the movie-cast could ever make an appearance in ROP... ... considering that the show will be doing well, and will have multiple seasons to cover the events of the 2nd Age... __________________

I feel like Lee would not be a part of the series but the character can be still, as they did with Elrond and Galadriel, we can see him as a younger version

I think he was only in the first episode so far...
 In the meantime, I reached the 2nd Hobbit movie - Lee was just perfect as Thranduil, his lines & his view on the world was spot on... __________________
