yeah I don't recall it being mentioned in the show/movies. However it is how Tolkien's description is.

I think there’s one exception, but yeah their love is forever. It was a partial explanation to why Elven numbers dwindled, they tend to only mate with one person.

seriously this scene was so exciting imo, especially the way they have shot it, it amazed me.

I gasped a lot for many scenes during my first watch and rewatches and this is one of them for me.
