Honestly, the way this show treats it's female characters is astounding. Every single one of them is strong in their own right, even the villains, and they haven't had to weaken the males to make them look stronger (like a lot of other shows). This portrayal of women is what young girls need, imo.

And hear hear! :) And it's not just that they're strong as individuals, but they support each other so much.

Re: young girls, I do wonder how old you guys think is old enough to show this to kids... Thinking of my little cousins now...

I think they could watch this around 8. I know people that show their kids HP around 10. And I find Supergirl to be appropriate for an audience younger than HP. There are some scary stuff on HP!

Supergirl does have Bizarro Girl, and I wouldn't let someone too young see her face. Scared me too. :lol:

I got a 7yo boy and a now 9yo girl (8 when she started watching) watching the show and they both love it. There's not really anything too adult that can't be explained away, and I think for the girl especially, it's really helped with her confidence. Her 5yo sister watches too sometimes, but she doesn't really have the attention span for full episodes yet, she just likes the flying.

This too is so important. When Lucy was first introduced I genuinely expected her to become some villain that hated Kara for no reason, and then all Kara and Lucy did was talk about how much they like each other, it's fantastic. And every relationship between the women has been consistent with this. No petty arguments or anything.

Yeah, my little cousin is going to be six soon if I'm not mistaken, and not entirely sure what her attention span is. Once I have the DVDs though it's definitely gonna be something I'll keep in mind to share with her.

And the Lucy thing, yes, I am so with you there. Most anywhere else, they would have been at odds from the start because of their shared interest in James or something, but it was so, so far from that, and it made me love the show even more...
