Yeah I only read a bit of Sandman, I need to start it over so I can get to Lucifer. It's supposedly amazing.

The author is Neil Gaiman.

I like this part of this article:

Quote:
On May 28, 2015, AFA website One Million Moms launched a petition to prevent the show's airing.[32] The petition says the new series "will glorify Satan as a caring, likable person in human flesh."[33] One Million Moms posted the petition on the aforementioned date and thus far, 27,085[34] people have asked Fox to cancel the program by signing the petition. The petition on the AFA website, which was also posted on the same date, has garnered the support of over 132,172[35] "concerned viewers."[36] The Petition has since been removed from the One Million Moms' website without listing it as a successful campaign.

Against the petition submitted by the right-wing Christian group, the character's co-creator, Neil Gaiman, reacted on his Tumblr page saying: "Ah. It seems like only yesterday (but it was 1991) that the “Concerned Mothers of America” announced that they were boycotting SANDMAN because it contained Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Trans characters. It was Wanda that upset them most: the idea of a Trans Woman in a comic book… They told us they were organizing a boycott of SANDMAN, which they would only stop if we wrote to the American Family Association and promised to reform. I wonder if they noticed it didn’t work last time, either…

Ooh ok. My sister has the Sandman collection, I'm gonna ask her. But she doesn't have the Lucifer spin-off ones, I'm gonna have to find those somewhere else.

The Sandman series is definitely one of my favorites. If you’re going to read them in volumes, #1 felt pretty slow to me, but it does pick up some momentum towards the end. Volume #2 is much better, and once more of the Endless (along with other memorable characters) are introduced, it’s hard not to love this series, imo.
Hope you do get around to reading them and enjoy them.
Now, I feel like reading them again, but I’m already in the middle of two books and a graphic novel.

Thanks for the info! In your opinion, do I have to read Sandman before reading Lucifer?

Well, I’d recommend Sandman no matter what. And I’ve never read the Lucifer collection (since Gaiman wasn’t involved ), but based on the previews for this show, (without giving too much away) it seems like Lucifer is in a totally different place in the Sandman series to where he might be in the Lucifer one.
It’s really up to you whether you want to spend the time reading the Sandman series in which Lucifer makes a few appearances, but I’ll tell you this much, there are plenty of other noteworthy tales and characters to discover in that series as well.

This show is going to be very different from the comics. It already is a Crime Drama which the comics were not. Last month issue #1 of a new Lucifer series was released by Vertigo. Local libraries tend to have graphic novels available. Mine had all the ones from the original Sandman series, so was able to read em. None of Lucifer though.
