yes, they were both lost, but that's only seeking comfort, not love

I think what they currently have is platonic love for one another as friends. The potential for romantic love has blossomed with what they shared. It could develop further if we get a season 5.

If it does happen I'd expect a slow sloooooow burn as they realise they really like each other that way, not just as a burst of comfort in a moment of.need
