Love this episode, it's hilarious! The ending with Luci having his wings cut off is dark though and adds some depth. I also found it interesting to see Luci get angry when his brother called him evil.

I wasn't keen on this episode myself. There were some things I enjoyed, like how Lucifer got his car (stole it, of course he did ) and got his club. And I liked seeing Chloe before she became detective and when she and Dan were still together. Oh, and how close Chloe and Lucifer came to meeting, but didn't, and that moment when Lucifer could feel a presence when she was right there, but they didn't come face to face. And I felt so sorry for Amenadiel. Besides that, I can't quite put the finger on it myself yet but something just felt off to me. :look:

Just taking a stab at a guess here, but maybe what was off was that the brothers were much friendlier than they should have been, considering how dark the pilot was, chronologically set five years later. In the pilot, they despise each other. Amenadiel said he hates Luci more with each visit, and Luci said he "looks forward to eating your heart someday." Which was creepy on so many levels!
But I like seeing them get along as brothers (which included beating each other bloody!) and I enjoyed this episode in spite of the inconsistencies in the relationship timeline. I don't think Tom and DB knew each other well in the pilot, and it's just hard to disguise the genuine affection they have developed over time, working together.

I just rewatched this one and I really enjoyed it! From Lucifer happily strolling along in his 70's ensemble and then unfurling his wings right on the street without batting an eye to the dramatic end where he had a tearful Maze cut off those wings, it was a really good look at his first visit to the Earth plane in apparently more than 40 years.
I got a good chuckle when he pulled the strawberry out of his pants and started munching away as he talked to Amenadiel. Got to wonder if that was actually in the script or an Ellis improv.
There were a lot of great moments in this episode, really too many to list. It really fleshed them out as brothers, and I loved Lucifer's response to Amenadiel calling him "evil;" stepping into the ring with him!
When he said to the killer at the end "So you killed your 'son' for not playing his part..." it made me realize in the final scene that he really thinks his Father might kill him for his disobedience, but his freedom is that important to him. He would really rather die than go back to Hell. The choice of a song about freedom to accompany that act of rebellion, cutting off his wings, made it even more poignant, along with Maze's tears.
I thought Maze's emotions were a consequence of her time on Earth, but that scene makes me think she has loved Lucifer since she followed him to hell in the very beginning.

I think they got the relationship between the two brothers really well in this episode. In the pilot I was somewhat off because they didn't have it fully figured out yet.

I liked that, too! I thought the pilot made Amenadiel look too much like a demon, really, and they were both so dark. This one was a lot more fun, and even though Lucifer was really pissed at Amenadiel for calling him "evil," he gave him grudging respect for tapping out. They really act like brothers.

Could.always be that Amenadil spent 5 years brooding over how Lucifer had managed to get the 'IOU' out of him and used it to stay on earth. Given his insesent need to do what his father commands at any cost (at that stage of his charecter development) I can see that grating on him and leading him to be super angry/hate Lucifer by the time the pilot comes around

Yeah, makes sense, and I think Amenadiel has tried to get Luci back to hell for 5 years, that would make them sarcastic to each other.
