I found 7 of 9 to be cold and nasty in a way that left her dehumanized. If you add that to the way she was sexualized, you've got a clear picture of objectification. I think she was the biggest problem in Voyager. There are a lot of Star Trek characters who are compromised in their humanity or don't understand humanity, but usually their element of coldness is offset by a deeper humanity and sympathy. Nimoy's Spock, Data, Odo, Saru, etc. But 7 was just cold, there was no deeper humanity, no particular sympathy. She was totally unrelatable. And that ridiculous outfit suggested that her purpose on the show was something other than being an interesting character. Contrast with Kira and Jadzia on DS9, who had so much personality and who were so relatable. Imagine how thrilled I was when 7 turned up in Picard season 1 acting like a real person. I could relate to her!

Wasn't that part of the point at the beginning? To show how her time as a Borg had almost completely eradicated her humanity.

There are different ways that could have been portrayed. For example, in TNG Data was supposed to have been without emotion, but Brent Spiner put an undercurrent of sympathetic emotion into his performance nonetheless, giving the character its charm. There was a similar situation with Spock. But 7 of 9 was portrayed with nothing relatable.

To me, Seven was most relatable when she was interacting with the EMH. They had a definite connection in trying to figure out how to get along with the human crew.

Yes, they did have a great friendship. both characters needed a friend, and they were the perfect match.
