The series will follow the trio “in the decade before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.”

Alex Kurtzman: “When we said we heard the fans’ outpouring of love for Pike, Number One and Spock when they boarded Star Trek: Discovery last season, we meant it. These iconic characters have a deep history in Star Trek canon, yet so much of their stories have yet to be told. With Akiva [Goldsman] and Henry [Alonso Myers] at the helm, the Enterprise, its crew, and its fans are in for an extraordinary journey to new frontiers in the Star Trek universe."

The title and timeline suggest the series could be episodic, rather than serialized. The series premiere was written by Akiva Goldsman with the story by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet."

Paul is amazing to watch. It’s not the same Kirk and that’s perfectly fine, I enjoy his version, keeps me guessing.

Honestly, I don't think we'd be happy if the new actors tried to portray the characters exactly the same. There's a fine line between between loyal to the original portrayal, and making the character your own. I like most of the recasts, but still not convinced regarding Paul's version of Kirk.

For me, Paul's portrayal seemed most like the established Kirk in the time travel episode with La'an.

Paul went in blind

he talked to Shatner but didn't ask him for any advice where he's making the role his own

hopefully in 3rd season we get more of him

Well, loving Stefan surely helps. Though I was a Damon girl at the time. But seeing him as Kirk for the first time made me very excited. I think he’s got that Captain confidence down.

Shatner defined Kirk. What he did was unique and can't be duplicated. Nobody else can be Kirk authentically. There is only one Kirk and will only ever be.

That said, Paul Wesley's performance is interesting as some character.

Not asking for advice is fine, but I hope Paul at least watched some TOS episodes to see the original character. Also, the writers and directors have a part in making sure the character is portrayed in an authentic manner.

Am sure he may have or could be a Trekkie already ~~not sure~~ but the writers/directors like you said are the ones

Speaking of

its weird to me having him having a brother - never knew that from TOS? but also have only seen random episodes vaguely remember but for me its more knowledge of the TOS movies
