Strange New Worlds 2.09: Subspace Rhapsody

An accident with an experimental quantum probability field causes everyone on the Enterprise to break uncontrollably into song, but the real danger is that the field is expanding & beginning to impact other ships - allies & enemies alike.

Thanks for starting this Tracey.

At first I found the idea intriguing, but now I'm not so sure. They've certainly tried some different things with the episodes this season.

Typically I hate musical episodes so I’ll probably skip most songs..

There you go. Makes me wonder why shows bother with such nonsense. We’re not on Broadway so please

I've got it on my PVR and will watch it eventually. Might not get to it tonight.

Plus the target audience of Star Trek isn’t exactly known for liking musicals

True. Hubby was in a bit of a mood last night, so I didn't suggest watching . Doubt he'll be impressed by the musical numbers.

I mean it could turn out better than expected, I'll find out when I watch it at some point. I did like a few other musicals on other shows, but it depends on how it's done I suppose, though I must say incorporating it into the story may be a plus, with them being aware they're singing.

The hubby and I watched it and loved it. Every song was tailored to each actor's voice, and everyone has a decent singing voice. I think I like Nurse Chapel's song the best. Ethan Peck has an amazing singing voice too.

Dancing and rock singing klingons was awesome! It was short, but it was all that was needed.

This episode was a lot better than I anticipated. Even hubby enjoyed it!

It was creative to use song lyrics to convey the characters innermost thoughts.
woah, Uhura is really working to keep all the communications straight
Pike having a tiff with his girlfriend on the bridge in front of the whole crew!
Una telling James her philosophy on what makes a good first officer
La'an telling Pike the singing was triggered by emotions and that it could be a security risk because she's afraid that she'll say something about how she knows James
Laan telling James how she feels
oh .. Jim tells La'an he's been in a relationship with Carol (Marcus?) and that she's pregnant
Christine being excited about getting the fellowship
Spock being disappointed and hurt that Christine will be away for 3 months
Uhura feeling alone
@ the dancing Kiingons!
They all have great voices

Yeah, I agree that it was better than I thought but could have done with less singing still. The dancing Klingons were so funny! Can imagine how pissed off they’d be

What is wrong with Chapel? Treated Spock like he was unworthy of consideration, eek. Of course she should go on her mission but not like that!
Who’s Carol?

Carol Marcus - we seen her and her son David in Wrath of Khan. Although I believe in that version Kirk didn't know Carol had become pregnant. Also, Alice Eve reprised the character for Into Darkness.

I wondered about Chapel unilaterally deciding that accepting the assignment meant the end of her relationship with Spock. Spock was obviously willing to do the long distance thing with T'Pring.

I like the way they're using the logs of various characters to start the narration of the episodes this season.

Oh, I remember her now, thanks. I’d say weird choice from the makers still.
