His eyebrows are plucked, so the role was probably current when the pic was taken. Considering late '60s hairstyles, his hair probably didn't look too out of place.

Personally, I dont mind the bowl cut even if it is outside of the Spock character. I had a friend who had a bowl cut and it looked horrendous on him. This looks good in comaprison
