Wow, we are so far past the 20-page mark on this thread, I feel like the map/timer guy on Hunt for Red October when they're in those undersea canyons being chased by the torpedo and Captain Ramius takes them out of the approved corridor... :goof:

The better to help me not have to admit to Romulan letters and Klingon words.;) :P

Rules for Martin's puzzles:
Martin's Rules for OCD Hangman:
  • You get a point for each letter you find in the puzzle. This is not your score, it's how I determine the end on the game. The match goes until someone gets 150 points.
  • The match winner is not determined until the puzzle in play (upon someone reaching 150 points) is solved.
  • At the end of the match, the person with the most puzzles solved is declared the winner. Puzzles solved is tracked with a tally of smiley-faces (:D). This is your actual, who-wins-who-doesn't score.
  • If there is a puzzle-tally tie, points score breaks the tie.
  • If, by some fantastic coincidence of planetary alignment, there is a tie of both puzzle tally and points...I guess both players win. Co-winners, yay! :yay:

Sometimes, I'll do bonus letters. Sometimes I won't. When there are bonus letters:
  • Only letters than occur exactly once in the answer can be bonus letters. However many once-only letters are in the answer, I will add a line at the bottom "Single-Use Letter #:"
  • When one of these letters is requested, I will add it to the list at the bottom.
  • If the line to which that letter gets added is bolded, the letter becomes a bonus letter. Most of the time, this means every other one, starting with the second.
  • If another player's points score is higher than yours, your bonus award is to have your points score increased to the highest, plus one, for all scores up to the letter you requested. Anything called after your post is scored normally. This means that if Lutesse has 130 points and Chris has anywhere from zero to 129 points and gets a bonus letter, Chris's score changes to 131. However, if Lutesse then asks for a letter worth two points after Chris got the bonus, but before I update, then the score when I update will be 131 for Chris, 132 for Lutesse.
  • If you already have the top points score when you post a bonus letter, your bonus award is a free :D

The Bankruptcy letter(s)
  • I will only do a Bankruptcy letter if there is at least one Bonus letter.
  • The Bankruptcy letter can be ANY letter in the puzzle, including a single-use letter.
  • The Bankruptcy letter is chosen completely at random before the puzzle is posted.
  • Getting the Bankruptcy letter reduces your points score to zero, but does not affect your puzzle tally (:D)

To keep me on my toes? Or to scare those Romulans & Klingons into submission?

Ouyyir i'ch'Rihan 05-18-2015 06:44 AM

George Takei: It seems to me important for a country, for a nation to certainly know about its glorious achievements but also to know where its ideals failed, in order to keep that from happening again.
