The Nazis were a lot more than merely dictatorial. I frankly wish people would quit using the term "Nazi" to refer to anybody who's a bit bossy. Roswell had a bad case of that -"the Christmas Nazi". Pissed me off.

I found the Christmas Nazi bit in Roswell inappropriate too.

Nice comparison set! Some of the recasts are hauntingly similar to the original characters.

Most of the recasts are painfully unacceptable. I think Star Trek lost a lot of credibility when it started recasting major characters, back in the Kelvin movies. But at least that had the excuse of being an alternate reality. Discovery and SNW have no such excuse and most of the recasts grate. Pike, Mbenga and Chapel are good recasts, improving on the originals. Most of the rest don't work, such as Kirk and Spock. You can only buy Ethan Peck as Spock if you forget what Nimoy was like. Nimoy's Spock was infinitely warmer and more sympathetic and far less ordinary.

I think Ethan has done a really good job as Spock, but Paul Wesley hasn't been Kirk for me. The SNW versions of original characters have been done really well overall.

The Kelvin movies were a waste of space..

Ethan's Spock is way too cold to be the same guy as Nimoy's.

Listen to his voice when he's playing Spock, so unlike Nimoy. Hard and cold.

For me Ethan has done a good job as Spock. I'm on the fence about Paul's portrayal of Kirk. While there have been some good moments, for the most part it doesn't seem like the same character to me.

Ethan has none of the subtlety and depth that Nimoy brought to the character. He gives a reasonable performance, but to believe he's Spock you really have to forget what Nimoy was like. And Paul is nothing on Shatner's powerful rendition of Kirk. Both Paul and Ethan do reasonable performances as characters, but not as THOSE characters.

Ethan's Spock is WRITTEN to be more expressive, Ethan has to portray far more instances of Spock letting loose with his emotions, but the WAY Ethan portrays the character is colder and more distant. Nimoy brings a marvellous subtle, tender expressiveness to the character that Ethan can't match and certainly does not duplicate. See the photos above for illustration.

Ultimately, Ethan's performance is colder, blander and more distant. Nimoy, by contrast, gets very close to you in his subtly expressive way.
