Wil Wheaton/Wesley Crusher

Wesley Crusher - the character people seem most likely to love or hate.

Richard William "Wil" Wheaton III was born July 29, 1972

I'll try to find some clips of him on The Big Bang Theory later.

One of my personal favorites, probably because of Brent Spiner's part in it:

"Pretty much. Yeah..."

Thanks for bringing that over Martin. One of the few episodes I've actually seen. I loved the big portrait of Wesley in Wil's apartment.

the tributes that The Big Bang Theory have paid to Star Trek are terrific. It's wonderful that Wheaton and Spiner have guested on the show.

I'm pretty sure that picture actually belongs to Wil too. He said they borrowed a bunch of things from him for that apartment set.

I'm around the same age as Wil, and I watched TNG when it first aired. I loved Wesley because I so wanted to BE Wesley I didn't know other people were so hostile to the character until I first ran into alt.wesley.crusher.die.die.die

I didn't like Wesley's last TNG ep though, I thought it was pretty bad and completely inconsistent with the character that had been portrayed on the series for every other episode he was in.

I have a lot of respect for Wil for being an unapologetic geek not unlike the guys on TBBT. I follow his Twitter feed regularly, and sometimes run across posts from him at other sites I happen to frequent.

Has anybody seen Wil in The Guild?

Can't say I have. What's it about? My desktop is kind of antiquated, so I don't watch much web video. Is this show on a broadcast station you could point me to?

It's a series made specifically for the web, primarily by Felicia Day. You can buy it on DVD as well, I've seen it in stores. It's about a guild of computer gamers and other associated subjects.

Wil Wheaton had a major role in season 3, which lead to this poster:

ThinkGeek :: Fawkes and Codex Highland Sextasy Poster

The most recent season took place at a convention where they had a load of guest stars, including a few from Star Trek (Brent Spiner, for example).

This!

I haven't watched TNG, but I know Wil Wheaton was in it and I also saw him in TBBT. I thought it was great that he was playing an evil version of himself. He's definitely my favorite guest on the show, and his reconciliation with Sheldon is one of my favorite scenes for the current season.

He actually makes me want to watch TNG, even if "Wesley Crusher" has google prompting me with "Wesley Crusher Must Die." I think I can tolerate his character, which I will probably be annoyed with, just knowing that the actor is a real-life geek who was a good sport about the whole thing. Seems like a really cool fellow.

The one where his group at the Academy has an accident that he helps to cover up?

No, that one was okay.

I mean his very last ep when he went off with the Traveler, Journey's End. Where Wesley suddenly decided he hated Starfleet, and he was only sticking around because he was afraid of disappointing everyone. To me, it seemed way out of character, considering nobody ever pressured him to be in Starfleet. Wesley was there because it seemed to be his dream from a young age, and pushed to get in even though he was too young.

I didn't like the tone of the ep either, the idea that Starfleet was just some military organization that was somehow beneath Wesley. If Roddenbury were still alive at that point, I can't imagine he would have let that go. In his vision, Starfleet was where all the action was, and not just for fighting, but for pushing the bounds of science and human understanding as well.

I may have to revisit that episode. It's been a reeeeeeaaaaally long time since I've seen it, but I don't recall having that impression. I wonder what difference any maturity I may have picked up in the intervening years will have on that

I didn't either, but that's what I thought when I rewatched the series recently. It's also the first time I ever watched the whole series from start to finish in such a short time - when I first saw the episode I was watching the show in real time, and that story was years removed from the early episodes with Wesley. But when I saw it again, it only took weeks, so when I saw Wesley in S7 it didn't match the Wesley I saw in the earlier seasons a few weeks before.

For me too. although I do remember him going off with the Traveller now that you mention it. I thought that was about exploring on a different level, or something to that effect.

The Academy training accident eppy seemed off to me. Sure, he'd have peer pressure, but Wesley had grown up with such a fine example of accepting responsibility from the Enterprise crew.

Makes sense

Yeah, he's been in a number of episodes of The Big Bang Theory, sort of a nemesis for Sheldon, though I think the last one he may have been in was the one with Brent Spiner, where he liked Wil again and hated Brent Spiner.
