TFTNT Chris!

TBH I thought this was the weakest episode so far...

- The main storyline didn't really interest me that much, although the boy
- I liked that we saw Uhura and La'an working together, I'm glad Uhura impressed La'an
- Like the little pep talk Pike gave Uhura in working with La'an
- Good that we saw a continuance of Dr. M'Benga storyline regarding his daughter
- Lied that M'Benga's daughter had fun and that the boy helped with that.
- I did think that Pike might save the boy at the end..
- No Hemmer this week

This was definitely the darkest STN episode of the season. Killing a child on-screen, to help a civilization prosper as a whole? What gets me, this society is supposed to be so scientifically advanced and yet, they couldn't find an alternative to making their society prosper without killing one of their own?

Agree, As a cadet it makes sense that part of Uhura's training includes getting real life experience in the various departments.. That pep talk from Pike was a really nice touch. Poor Uhura scarfing down her dinner in order because of La'an's "security doesn't take breaks" philosophy.

Overall I'm not finding La'an a particularly sympathetic character. Gained some respect for her insisting that Uhura be the one to present the results ofher analysis to the senior officers.

Uhura is really proving that she can hold her own in the various departments.

Great reaction from M'Benga when he finds that his sick bay isn't considered start of the art. He's heartbroken when the Eleder won't share information with him. Glad the Elder changed his mind at the end and gave him a clue.

Loved the scene of the First Servant playing with Rukiya.

I couldn't believe that they weren't able to save the First Servant. Any other Trek franchise would have found a way. Pike's feelings for Alora must have clouded his judgement. Alora trying to compare child poverty to human sacrifice was just unbelievable.

I wonder if we'll see emotional consequences or some sort of remorse from Spock considering he revealed the boy's hiding spot and sub sequentially sent him to his death.

I was disappointed about that too.

Not much of Erica either, but she gets the best lines
remind them that we're bigger

It was nice to see La'an lighten up a bit with Una last week. This week she was in full drill sergeant mode.

Not necessarily tbh, remember that episode where riker loved that alien that wanted to be female but was not allowed to be? Well her personality got erased in the end without them being able to save her.

For sure characters died, but that this was a child was just awful.

True, I think the main point was to show that technological advancement was not equal to societal/cultural advancement. Bc while their tech was more advanced than earth's earth managed to create a progressive society, while those poeple were actually quite primitive still in their way of thinking and very intolerant.
