I wonder if they're trying to hard to make people realize this show isn't a direct continuation of TNG, and in doing so are losing touch with what appeals to Star Trek fans.

I don't mind that if it makes it into its own niche. I want it to firstly to be a good show that leaves me wanting to see the next episode. So far it's been slow to start, but I do hope it's starting to hit its stride now.

My main worry was that it was becoming a fanfic, and fan-service and not its own thing. The kind of mistake I feel Doctor Who makes.

The thing is when you read the books, I mean the classic book continuity in which romulus does not get destroyed and picard and crusher get married, you just want to see that story being adapted rather than a completely different. That made me feel disappointed a bit.

Elnor kinda looks like a Romulan Legolas.

Btw why does adult elnor have brown eyes while kid elnor has blue eyes? That weird.

He does!

I didn't notice the eye colour differed. I would have thought the casting people would have paid attention to that detail.

They somehow don't seem to care about details that much tbh.

Yeah, I didn't understand that either. They should have gone from there.

Same, they surely can change some details here and there as with all book adaptions, but try to at least keep the overall story keypoints. Especially since in the books several of the old trek shows' writers were involved.

In the end I just see this as again another timeline. I mean we also have the kelvin timeline.

Probably the best approach. While we have had some nods to continuity, they also have their own vison of what's happened since TNG.
