Angel being friends with one of them would've been very interesting.

I still wonder what their intentions were with Kate, if she was a misdirect from the start, or if they weren't really set on any specific relationship between her & Angel & were just gonna see how it goes

I really can't imagine anyone having as much an impact on his character like Darla did, such great chemistry, great story, that really kept his characters in that grayscale that the show needed, instead of just being black & white about good & evil.

They weren't caring much on any of Angel relationships, that was pretty much always clear.

The whole Kate thing was interesting... it truly felt like she came on a a love interest but probably the pairing didn't really catch any interest with the viewers and writers so they never went that romantic route? I don't know. I enjoyed their relationship though.

And you are correct, no character would've made as much sense as Darla ended up making which is why I am happy that is the direction they went! and obviously Tim Minear of course mentioned how he wanted a Angel relationship to not have a connection with Buffy or sort of not make sense... so sort of having a person who existed way before Buffy made so much sense.

I enjoyed the Angel/Kate relationship too, because she was different from people he'd been around before & when she found out about vampires it was quite complicated. I don't think they had romantic chemistry though, so I think it was a good choice not to go down that route.

But whoever else they could have chosen for him, none would have come close to Darla. Their relationship was so rich, there was so much history there & she was still a huge part of who Angel is.

^ Yup and what made Angela/Darla more captivating was the fact that they really didn't need to start over with them, all we needed was to see their history through the flashbacks while understanding their relationship in the present. So they needed a compelling past.

We saw all the main parts, but there's still so much that I would love to see, you think we know there whole story, but there's still a lot of potential to be explored there

After their little conversation, Dru was having a vision of something that was going to happen in the future... not sure she knew exactly what would happen but something related to punishment, pain and fire.

At the time, Darla had no clue what Dru was ranting about. lol

What Dru meant about "flogging" in that sentence was that she assumed that Angel was punishing himself in a church somewhere.

That was such a good scene & kinda karmic in a way - Darla had been getting under Angel's skin for most of the season & driving him crazy, & now he was doing it to her without really trying

Yeah and I loved that when Darla got her soul back that she was automatically back to cause destruction, she still was very much affected by the soul... and even if she tried to ignore that the soul was affecting her, you can clearly see it in her impression... she was even upset with Dru when she came back as a vampire.

So it was interesting that the writers went that direction...
It's sort of why I still wish we could've seen a scene with Darla/Angel before Dru and Darla officially teamed up again... just to see how Darla would've been since she wasn't all the way that please with Dru.
