I do for the most part like the relationships that aren't planned! And they still happen anyway.

Happy that Tim Minear saw the potential of Angel[us] & Darla when he had to write a storyline of an Angel love interest on the ATS series.

Me too, I think that things on paper can turn out really different on screen, so sometimes you need to change the story & direction of the show/characters. & I'm so glad that Tim Minear did that with these two

Yes! If he didn't think of bringing Darla back, we never would have gotten a great story! I am happy he didn't go the predictable route of Angel/Cordy... which is what most writers would have done... he really looked through the history and went with what made sense because as he mentioned, he wasn't involved with Buffy at all... and didn't really watch it.

So he had to do some huge research when it came to deciding who should be Angel's love interest for Season 2.

I've been rewatching season 1, & I'd forgotten how great brotp Angel/Cordy were, really makes me wish it had stayed that way...

Darla was a great choice, they could have created someone new I guess, but Darla brought so much more to the show & Angel's character because of their history. It really made Angel have to deal with his Angelus side in a way that he never had before

I remember that.

I always enjoyed the little bit of scenes that they did share... same with Angel/Willow... would've been nice to get more of that but obviously it wasn't only about Angel/Buffy on that show.

I actually thought they'd go the Angel/Kate route initially.... and I felt with good writing, it could've happened but Darla turned out to be the best choice because I feel anyone in Angel's life would've pretty much gotten the Riley treatment....
So it was great to tie in Darla, a person who existed way before Buffy even existed and it made Angel/Darla story even more special and unique.

Yeah, I would have loved to see Angel have a friendship with any of the scoobies tbh, btu the writers clearly weren't interested in anyone really mattering to him other than Buffy...

I still wonder what their intentions were with Kate, if she was a misdirect from the start, or if they weren't really set on any specific relationship between her & Angel & were just gonna see how it goes

I really can't imagine anyone having as much an impact on his character like Darla did, such great chemistry, great story, that really kept his characters in that grayscale that the show needed, instead of just being black & white about good & evil.
