Someone posted this on tumblr or twitter or something a while ago and I saved it. This was the very beginning of an article from Vanity Fair about Carl's death, not even about Beth!!! Only people who weren't paying attention don't see that ****ing up Beth's arc was the start of the show's downfall.

I think a good portion of it's because the walking dead has no endgame, or even a middle really, so they eventually they just put bull**** on tv to fill time. They have no idea where the story is going because there is no ending to work towards.

Definitely. That was the first time there was quite significant backlash against the show and even just in this thread all of us quit watching the show because of it.

I would say a lot more people are realizing that was the turning point for the show too. Hindsight is a funny thing.

They really don't know what their end game is. And the fact I keep seeing articles saying show runners are saying TWD will last 10 more years or whatever is kind of proof of that.

I think they have no idea how to end so they just have to keep going indefinitely at this point. Seriously though, the talk about it going on for decades is pure delusion. Even with strong ratings what show has talked about going on for years like that? Like it was mentioned Grey's is thinking of ending. Big Bang Theory and Game of Thrones are ending. Soaps are known for going decades and decades and I'm sure their ptb are not arrogant and egotistical enough to think their shows will still be around by then.

It really is delusional to want to keep it going that long. Even if they could why would you want to. And honestly at this point they already have no good ideas for the show.
