"My Best Friend's Girl" Relationships
 

I wasn't quite sure how to word the title of this thread so I'm not sure many people are going to post but, eh... I just recently realised how intrigued I was by this type of relationship. I never realised there were so many couples I shipped that fit this 'type'

For example, my list:
- Blair was dating Nate. Nate is best friends with Chuck. I love Blair and Chuck (Gossip Girl)
- Lyla was dating Jason. Jason is best friends with Tim. I love Lyla and Tim (Friday Night Lights)
- Robin used to date Ted. Ted is best friends with Barney. I love Robin and Barney (How I Met Your Mother)
- Veronica used to date Duncan. Duncan is best friends with Logan. I love Veronica and Logan (Veronica Mars)
- Jackie used to date Kelso. Kelso is best friends with Hyde. I love Jackie and Hyde (That 70's Show)
- Addison was married to Derek. Derek is best friends with Mark. I love Addison and Mark. (Grey's Anatomy)

And I'm not at all a fan of Pacey/Joey but they are another obvious example.

Strangely enough, I dont seem to enjoy the "my best friend's boyfriend" relationships as much - eg: Lucas/Peyton, Nate/Serena (I cant really think of anyone else :look:)

So do you hate relationships like these? Love them? If so, which one's are your favourites? Discuss! :D

I don't usually enjoy My best friends boyfriend either.
Except in case of NS.
But CB and JH are amazing. :sigh:

Well, I don't love the relationship because of the circumstances it just so happens that sometimes those two have way better chemistry then the original couple!

My favorites would be Veronica\Logan, Pacey\Joey and Blair\Chuck.

Yeah its not like I look for it, but a lot of times, the couples are just better.

I agree that it's not necessarily always this kind of circumstance that leads me to shipping the couple (especially with Tim/Lyla, I think. But mostly because their relationships involved cheating) but with most of them I think the whole 'my best friend's girl' aspect definitely contributes to it. Like with Chuck/Blair, I like that she was Nate's girlfriend first and Chuck was just the sleazy best friend she was kind of forced to put up with (though I think they were pretty close regardless)

Weird, I was just thinking about this the other day too..

Love them! (most of the time). Its funny to see these relationships because most of the time, the girl thinks the first guy is like her ~true love~ and then falls unexpectedly in love with the best friend. My favorite "best friend's girl" relationship is LOGAN/VERONICA, of course. :in_love:

Yeah. It adds a lot of depth to the relationship. Like CB. I don't think they would be the same kind of couple with BN.

Same with JH. Without Jackie being hurt by kelso, without hyde trying to get Jackie to realize she could do better, they wouldn't have been the same.

Its like the first relationship is a growing up relationship and the bestfriend/gf is deeper.

:nod: And I love that the 'best friend' is almost always far more messed up/damaged than the first guy!

I love NS, but ITA with you most of the time. LP, DK, I hate them all. It always ruins the show for me.

And its like, we hate the thought of a best friend doing that to us, or of us doing that to a best friend.

I hate OTH for the simple fact that it completely disrespected the friendship of BP. It was disgusting.
GG was based on the bestfriends boyfriend triangle but BS rised above it.

Usually I hate that betrayal. Peyton hurt Brooke by being with Lucas, and Kelly and Dylan totally ruined Brenda by sleeping together. :puke: NS seems to be the one exception to this rule, but it probably also has to do with the relationship Serena would be in otherwise.

Can anyone tell me why Brooke and Peyton are still friends? :look: I always preferred Brooke's friendship with Haley anyway.
