Thank you for this thread. It's a welcomed release. There's been so many wonderful caring thoughts written about Whitney and Kevin here. The eulogy was outstanding. He obviously cared a great deal about Whitney. One of the first messages he imparted to the audience was that he and Whitney had something in common. Years ago, she had a single with her ex by that same title. He went on to describe their shared religion. Someone wrote earlier that he is a smart man. Yes indeed, he is smart and patient.

Here's Whitney describing the qualities most appealing to her in a man.

Kind of like a you can look but don't touch situation. Not to mention the kissing and what not. Also the flirting banter going on between them. Shouldn't it have been torture for them to be soooooo close to each other?
It is in a way, but I think that two people in that type of situation get more joy above any other emotion to be around each other, even if they can't be together. & If anyone felt torture it was more so Kevin than anything. He really wanted Whitney, you could just see it in his eyes.
Can you imagine the two of them dealing with that temptation though? And trying to not cross that line? I agree with you. I think they would have tried to focus on enjoying each other's company. And ditto to what you said about Kevin. Remember him saying "I kissed her once for everybody in America and once for myself?" It was definitely more than once but it's just another instance of Kevin being obvious.

Kiki242, by clashing are you thinking about if they discussed the people they were currently with?

I can't imagine them trying to do that to each other, but they did in the end. As they say you can't help or control how you fall in love with.

Kevin once said that he liked her essence. He went on to say that it was appealing to him.
I think what he loved was her magificient feminine charm. Girl had it down to a science. It works, and she planted herself right smack in the center of his heart. She certainly proved to be unforgettable. The movie star hero had hands laid upon him by a real queen. Diana Ross has feminine charm and so did Marilyn Monroe.

I think her charm was just natural. You could see it in interviews.

No clashing wasn't the right word. I mean that fighting the temptation would eventually get to you. Like if your on a diet and there's a chocolate cake in front of you. Either you're going to give in or go insane.

LOL Yeah Kevin was really TOO OBVIOUS !! I know people get divorced everyday & thats life but I found it a bit strange that he divorced a year after The BodyGuard. I mean he had roles with women in movies way before The BodyGuard that Im sure the wife watched. Something just tells me that his wife clearly noticed his attraction towards Whitney & saw that there was something more...I could be wrong but thats what I feel in my gut. & I know that it had to be extremely hard to control those feelings and avoid not crossing "that line". When you feel something that deep for someone, it is hard to control. I've been in a similar situation but the line was because of not wanting to ruin a great friendship with that person & not because of them being with someone else. Even though I never want to ruin the great friendship that I have with this person, when I'm around them it is HARD to disguise those feelings & vice versa for him...A strong emotion like that cant be disguised so I KNOW it was hard for Kevin.

I think it was hard for both of them but Whitney could hide her feelings easier. However there are times when they showed. In a interview about the bodyguard there was a part when they talked about Kevin. Her smile was very bright at that moment.

I think either way you look at it, it was hard on both of them no matter which one of them could hide their feelings better than the other.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this and mistakenly started a new thread but here's my 2 cents:

1) I think Whitney was a person in a lot of denial. In her Oprah interview, with her husky voice, she denied that her singing voice had been affected. In her Bodyguard interview she claimed the "intimacies" were all "programmed". Yet Kevin Costner described them as "passionate".

Moreover I remember reading an interview when The Bodyguard originally came out. In this interview Kevin described an intense love scene. The exact words he used were "too wild" and thus the scene had to be taken out. But near of the end of the interview, I remember him saying with with a satisfied smile. "But we did, we did it all afternoon long!" "Programmed?" I don't think so. Maybe denial of her true feelings was a major part of her problem.

Welcome mortie121! glad you're here. I never thought that denial could be a problem for her, but it's very possible. Now If you mean denial about her true feelings for Kevin, then no I don't think she was in denial about that at all, now if you mean denial about other things in her life? Possibly yes, but not sure.
