This is exactly how I can see it happening as well

I also think that this part when DE are going to try to bring Stefan back will be the most important for their connection and Damon's character growth. Then when Stefan comes back SE will get back together and Damon will just be a good brother for Stefan and maybe date someone (a normal, equal relationship). SE will need time to realize that their feelings cannot be the same anymore and that maybe they are not something eternal and epic like they thought they where in the beginning of their relationship. I can see them breaking up naturally. Only after that I'd want something romantic from DE. God forbid any cheating SL while Stefan is away, I wouldn't bear it.

I dont think something like that will happen while Stefan is away. I guess, it also depends how long Stefan is away

If it's only for a few episodes. Which I think it will be, I dont think anything like that will happen, Elena is only realizing right now that she and Damon does have something.

I don't see anything like this happening in Stefan's absence. I can only see DE becoming closer as a team and their bond growing stronger.

I honestly doubt something would actually happen while Stefan is away. Sure, there will be feelings and they will grow and there will be awkward moments (I really really need them) and it's going to be beautiful, but I'm sure they won't be going behind Stefan's back nor would I want them to now that she's kissed him.

Besides, I doubt the "Stefan is bad" arc will actually last beyond three episodes

Wow, I love that we are on the exact same when it comes to this

I just really, REALLY need some good development for Damon - no pushing Elena, being a good brother to Stefan, no abusing women because he is upset.

But I'm pretty sure that we will get really good D/E and Damon moments in the first half of the season

Yeah, that's true

But I hope that we have Ripper Stefan for at least half the season. His evil past was letdown enough, they need to give him some layers, IMHO. And half a season would be a good amount of time for D/E to build a really strong connection.

Sigh, Rita, me neither. But I'm TRYING to be optimistic here, ok?

Though we'll probably get three episodes of "bad" Stefan where he won't even kill anyone on screen and then the sight of Elena will bring him back to the good side

I agree that Ripper Stefan has to last at least longer than 3 episodes. I love Stefan as a character, but coming up with this SL and not exploring it properly will be a giant waste of his potential.

Exactly the way I see it

Damon needs a growth and DE need to have those little sweet moments and work out their issues, slowly growing stronger as friends and as a team. I can only see Elena realizing she has feelings for Damon closer to the ending of S3.

I also think we need Elena being single for a while. I don't really want her to just be a love interest when she is so much more than that.

We did have a single Elena for a few episodes this season but I was really disappointed with how they handled that SL.
