Brett/Casey - You know it's bad when even one of the actors playing them says they look like siblings.
Jay/Erin - He was basically made a footnote in her story. The entire relationship was about her and what she could get from him. Completely toxic for him. She never communicated, punished him for caring about her, and barely ever acknowledged he even had his own issues (and when she did it was just to have a go at him for not telling her sooner), which played a big part in why his PTSD was never addressed until after she ghosted him (and as awful as that is, he's so lucky she did). Phoebe/Cole - Literal abuse. He wanted to annihilate her family. Brought out the worst in Phoebe, and in some ways, Piper. Almost cost her another sister after losing Prue all but destroyed her. Nothing about his behaviour suggested he cared about her, there was just endless abuse and manipulation. Them not being endgame was the best thing for Phoebe, to a point where it didn't really matter too much what else they did, because being stuck with him would always have been worse. I've been rewatching recently and it just gets worse with every rewatch. The guy repeatedly terrorised her younger sister and then tried to erase said sister's existence AFTER she naively tried to help him. Brooke/Lucas - Completely toxic for each other. Brought out the absolute worst in each other, and neither of them cared to actually get to know the other. Brooke had to manipulate the situation (including the abhorrent act of trying to push her friend back into an abusive relationship) to even get him to look at her in the first place, because she knew he wasn't interested in her. Rory/Jess - Completely toxic. None of Rory's boyfriends were great, but Jess was by far the worst. He had absolutely no respect for her or her boundaries (as shown by the sexual assault), and he was abusive and condescending. The way he treated her was absolutely disgusting. Beyond cruel. He didn't love her, he wanted to own her, to control her, and when she wasn't willing to play along, he berated and punished her for it via disappearing acts. Whenever he came back, he immediately started trying to control her again. And then there's the revival, where he's still condescending her and, in some moments, bordering on stalking her (wtf was that scene of him staring at her through a window, creepy!). Romantic Elliot/Olivia - Aside from the fact that there's no romantic chemistry whatsoever, it requires a complete regression of Liv's character, imo (which is already being made obvious, lbr), she changed and grew so much when he left, there's no logical way she would be interested anymore, and regardless, it wouldn't make sense for her to be okay with someone with a history as violent as his being around her son, it would go against everything she has become since she adopted Noah. He's toxic, and he hasn't really changed at all, the Olivia we know would never willingly allow that around her child. Emily/Alison - Could have been fascinating if the show had acknowledged it as the toxic dynamic it was. Instead they insulted the characters and the audience by suggesting that Alison could just stop being a sociopath (nope). Forever glad the spin-off was cancelled with them divorced. Best outcome we could hope for for Emily in the end. Spencer/Wren, Aria/Ezra, Hanna/Wren etc. - Grown man manipulating their way into the life of underage girl when they're vulnerable, giving no regard for them in the slightest is not the great love story that PLL seemed to think it was. It's an SVU storyline. Haley/Dylan - The fact that they had to completely regress Haley as a character to go there should have been enough to tell them they shouldn't go there. Aaron/Robert - Toxic, abusive mess that Aaron is better off far away from. Ellie/Luke - Damaged Ellie as a character. It was horrific that she would date someone involved in the abductions of many of her friends, especially when a lot of them were still missing. Bray/Amber - She abandoned her found family based on a lie she was told by someone she knew hated her, and decided it was his fault. Michaela/Zeke - Zeke's existence took away from the premise of the entire show and it was one of the things that really put me off of it. Not killing him off when he hit his death date and raising the stakes for the actual important characters of the show (Michaela, Ben, Cal etc.) was a massive mistake. Kara/Mon El - Abusive mess that supported the idea that it's a woman's job to fix a toxic, damaging man. Sidelined Kara in her own show. The fact that the writers didn't see an issue with essentially replacing Kara's relatively healthy relationship with a genuine, kind black man with an abusive relationship with a slave-owning misogynist is concerning at best. JJ/Reid - So glad they never followed through with that retcon. What they did do made absolutely no sense. Georgie/Izzie - Their friendship was beautiful and as with all beautiful things on GA, Shonda destroyed it. There was no reason for this mess to happen. Ever. There was no romantic chemistry, it was embarrassing to watch, and destroyed an amazing part of the show. Denny/Izzie - I never understood why the show went there. It wasn't a good story, it damaged Izzie's credibility as a doctor and almost destroyed her career, and there wasn't really anything special about the guy that made him worth risking it all for, imo. Meredith/Derek - I used to love them when I was younger but it basically started as romanticised sexual harassment. Lexie/Jackson - She was in love with someone else and he knew it. Dude needed to respect himself more. |
