Fred was great (mostly because Amy Acker played her as awkwardly adorable) but I definitely agree; they overplayed the guys' love for her.

Season 1 was excellent build-up for Cangel. We got to see Cordy and Angel working together on a level we'd never seen in BTVS.


I think the main thing I took from Angel Season 1 is the maturity of Cordelia. She starts off faking having a great new life in L.A. to Angel, then eventually melts down and admits she's in a terrible place (both physically AND emotionally) and needs companionship. We finally got to see Cordelia making an effort when it came to both work and friendship. She never lost her hilarious character traits from BTVS, but gaining the visions from Doyle changed Cordy in a positive way.

Indeed, I have nothing against Fred as a character and her death was really tragic, her story would have just been a bit better without too much love!

I love how 'opposites attract' they are in S1. Like they are the two people least likely to get along and yet in their own strange awesome way, they do.

They do what I liked the most is that their interactions weren't forced upon us. The writers don't try to ret-con their Sunnydale personalities. It begins as a reluctant friendship that develops into a genuine affection. Cordy happens to run into Angel in the Pilot episode, they have an awkward catch-up where she makes some typical tactless insult towards him, then by the time she gets the visions, Angel respects how motivated she is to help people.

The great thing about Cangel is that Cordy made Angel laugh and smile more than anyone. He never looked so joyful, not even in Sunnydale. Remember 'Dead End' when Angel buys Cordy a bunch of sandwiches to cheer her up ~

"I didn't remember what you liked."
"Why didn't you ask me?"
"Well, you said you were tired of people asking if you wanted anything, so I didn't wanna do that..."
"So you did this instead..."
"Yeah..."
"I love you. (Angel smiles) And you ought to do that more often. Smile."



Oh god, I loved the love square of Buffy, Angel, Cordelia and Xander Cordy tried to flirt with Angel every chance she got. Their Halloween interaction was cute; you could see when Buffy walked in that Angel was genuinely laughing at Cordy's jokes about Devon

The only time I remember Angel smiling like that with Buffy is in IWRY.

Cordy was able to draw smiles outta him at his broodiest.
Buffy was definitely threatened by her in that scene.

Why do you think Cordy stopped going after Angel in Sunnydale? Do you think it was because she found out he was a vampire, or because she finally realized he was only interested in Buffy.

A bit of both I'd say, by mid S2 the whole Angelus thing was going on too. But there was always chemistry, even if Angel was wrapped up in Buffy back then.

I definitely agree and think it was a mixture of both.

I love that scene in the gif. It has been a while since I've seen the show but I think that was the first time Angel really smiled like that. And I love that Cordelia seemed able to bring that out in him on Buffy and on Angel.
