Hi everyone


I was thinking about OTH today for the first day in a long time (as I'm sure you can tell from my username, I was a huge fan of the show I'm not anymore for various reasons), and this is what I thought about ~


Brooke/Nathan should have happened when Haley left town in Season 2. I was personally never a Naley fan because I hated what their rushed marriage did to both characters and how they restricted Nathan from pursuing his dream. There was a gender imbalance in how Haley was allowed to go off and do whatever she wanted, but he wasn't. But Nathan and Brooke were two very similar people who went down very similar paths - pursuing two people who had their own journeys to take. Being heartbroken but not being able to move on.


I think Seasons 2 and 3 would have been ideal for Brathan to happen.


I hated the sex tape storyline because it was forced, made no sense and literally retconned their history (was it EVER suggested before Season 4 that these two had hooked up? No, it wasn't, and Brooke and Nathan are not shy people. They would have given more hints that it had happened in their behavior towards each other. Mark Schwahn is an idiot for changing history like that. It was done just to make Peyton's actions with Lucas more forgivable )

Brooke/Nathan happening in season 2/3 would have been pretty interesting and much better than what they did with both characters at that point (especially Brooke's).

While I do agree that Naley getting married was an massive mistake for both characters and clearly was an last minute call for an shock moment, but I definitely wouldn't say Nathan wasn't allowed to do whatever she wanted considering the way Mark always victimized female characters for wanting to follow their dreams. If there was any gender imbalance, it was the other way around due to an few of their scenes hinting that Nathan's career was more important than Haley's.

I definitely felt that they prioritized Haley's career in Season 2 over Nathan's, to the point where she even said "I feel as if we rushed into getting married" (Ya don't say?!? )


I mean, Nathan almost gets sick with worry when Haley leaves town. First she kissed Chris, then she took off for the tour. It hurts Nathan so bad and he obsesses over it so much that he ends up in a near-fatal car crash Yet Mark Schwahn STILL put them back together in Season 3


They should have had the guts to give Brathan a try after Haley left for the tour. I was bored of Naley (I never liked them together in the first place) but the whole marriage crisis really took its toll on Nathan and I hated seeing him so miserable. He had a lot in common with Brooke, who had experienced her own heartbreak over Lucas. It could have been such a refreshing, mature, exciting romantic story line for Brooke and Nathan to start spending time together and ultimate develop feelings for each other.


...What did we get instead? A half-hearted sex tape from years ago that was shoe-horned in to make Lucas/Peyton seem angelic together and ret-conned history to make Brooke seem like the nasty friend.

You sound like me in your post. I agree with you on EVERYTHING!!

I always said that if Brooke/Nathan happened, than season 2 would have been the most perfect time to do it. When Haley left on tour, they should have made Brooke and Nathan bond somehow... instead of the Brooke/Felix romance, I would've edited that out for Brooke/Nathan bonding and slowly falling in love heading into season 3.

Season 2 & 3 would've just been the most perfect time.

Oh yeah that sex tape. That was the most ridiculous out of no where storyline. They need to stop it with that. lol If they had sex than we would have known about it way before season 4. That was just a storyline thrown in their because the writers and Mark didn't have any original storylines to think up of the moments. And YUP, it was only done to fix Brooke/Peyton friendship since the writers seemed to not have another way to fix it.

Just lazy story telling, I would've found another way to repair the friendship if they needed it fix so much.

Sam, I discussed this with you a few time but taking the whole Mark factor out of that I felt that Nathan wasn't allowed to pursue his dreams more than Haley when I watched live. When Nathan went to pursue his dreams it was always something Haley to get him from doing it.

He was going to be a basketball star and she's pregnant and he has to put everything in hold.

It seems people forget that NATHAN was the FIRST one to believe in Haley music skills. He was the one who encouraged her to sing in season 1 when she was to shy to do it. He made her a demo tape because he loved her voice and believed in her. When Chris got involved is when things changed.

Nathan didn't have an issue with Haley pursuing her career, he had an issue with Chris Keller being involved and to him he thought that Haley had feelings for Chris since she did kiss him a few times and left town with him....

If it was the other way around, Nathan would've been the least favorite character of the series to a lot of people. But since it's Haley, I guess we can all smile and accept it.

That's how I felt about it.

Yeah, but at the same time an music tour is more important than an basketball camp, regardless of gender and how important that camp is.

Haley's dreams got put on the backburner quite a few times throughout the show, so I definitely wouldn't say we saw her pursue her dreams more than Nathan. Haley getting pregnant was on both of them lol and it's clearly something that neither party planned at that point, so Nathan wasn't the only one who had to put things on hold dream wise.

Chris did play an part in their issues and Haley was wrong to get the kiss/es from Nathan, but regardless all of that he was 100% wrong for giving her an ultimatum and for trying to sleep with her sister.

I doubt lol, since Nathan wouldn't have been written in the way that S2 Haley did.
