New Ally & Larry fan here. I never saw the show when it aired. I was more into sci-fi. In the last little while I became a little obsessed with Robert Downey Jr. and saw a clip of Ally McBeal when he was on Inside the Actors Studio from one of the websites dedicated to him and decided to check it out. Absolutely love them. It's a shame Robert's personal life got in the way of the storyline. As far as I'm concerned season 5 doesn't exist, she doesn't have a kid, and they ended up together. I've only seen season 4 plus the season 5 episodes where she has flashes of him so I don't know much about the rest of the show. I prefer to stick with the episodes with her and Larry.
