The groundbreaking and provocative series originally ran in the U.S from 2000 –2005 and is currently airing in countries all over the world. Scott was born in Denver, Colorado and raised in the suburbs of New Haven, Connecticut. He majored in theater at Connecticut College and also studied acting at the National Theatre Institute (he was fortunate to study at both schools with the legendary Morris Carnovsky). He shortly moved to Chicago where over the course of a decade, he immersed himself in the local theater scene, including performances at the famed Steppenwolf and Goodman. He also landed his first TV role in Chicago on Early Edition. Scott moved to Los Angeles in 1998 and quickly found himself busy in a number of successful commercial campaigns, guest roles on sit-coms and a lead in a sci-fi television film. In 2000 he landed QAF and spent the next five years shuttling back and forth between LA and Toronto, Canada where the series was filmed. He also kept busy traveling around making speeches for a number of civil rights organizations (including the Human Rights Campaign) and political campaigns as well as appearing as a presenter and Host of a number of GLAAD Awards shows. Since QAF has wrapped Scott has appeared on stage at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, Berkshire Theatre Festival, Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, A Noise Within, Pasadena Playhouse, The Furious Theatre Company, Artists Repertory Theatre (Portland,OR), in a number of independent films and on the television series Bones where he has appeared as “Dr. Douglas Filmore” in multiple episodes as well as many other series (CSI, Castle, CSI:NY,NCIS, Heroes, Criminal Minds, Leverage) and as various voices in the animated series American Dad. He has also been hard at work writing screenplays on his own and with his writing partner, Eddie Jemison as well as developing ideas for television and the web including the series “Adoptable” and the podcast “CharActors!”. Scott also works as a mentor for the Young Story Tellers Foundation and raising awareness for the Evan B. I read Q and A on Scotts official website, I thought I would bring some interesting/funny stuff here:
Here is Scotts advice for people suffering from QAF addiction :lmao: Hi Scott, I have discovered QAF by accident in the Toronto Public library last November and, since then, I believe I saw it 5 times. I bought DVDs as a gift to myself recently, went through the whole series again and just finished two days ago. Now I am fighting with myself, trying not to start with Season1 (again). I am wondering if someone came up with some kind of a QAF 12 steps program? I do not remember ever being addicted to something like this. ..... Any suggestion to help with that would be most appreciated All the best with your series! And thank you for being part of QAF. Tatjana Scott: Hey, Tatjana. Sadly, there is no known cure for QAFAS (QAF Addiction Syndrome) and as it is a disease that lodges itself in the heart as well as the neurological systems, 12 step programs have proven themselves to be abject failures. My only recommendation: pace yourself. Give yourself enough time to live your life fully enough that you reach a point where you start not to be able to remember whether or not “Brian” wore his shell bracelet on his right or left wrist as well as the name of “Ted’s” boss when he was still a lowly accountant … then and only then can you give yourself another “hit”. It’s a beautful summer day out there, Tajana go outdoors and enjoy it while you can. There’ll be plenty of cold winter days ahead for you to hunker down and indulge your disease. About end of the show regarding Brian and Justin River writes: Hi Scott!I'm a big fan of yours and I loved Queer as folk, I still find it hard to watch the last episode as I don't want to say goodbye to the characters, I felt a bit upset that Brian and justin didn't get married just as Brian admitted what "we knew " he loved justin, do you or any other cast members think they should have married? Also any news of a new QAF season or movie? River SCott: River, honestly I support the ending that our creators Ron Cowen and Dan Lipman came up with for all the characters. I can’t say more than that without stirring up a hornet’s nest of opinions out there in the fandom. That’s the nice thing about a show like QAF where you get so invested in the characters … everyone is going to feel differenty about what they want for them as everyone has different emotions invested in the characters based on their own experiences and desires. I will say this, the show is about Boys becoming Men and “Justin” had to become his OWN man one way or another. Who knows for sure what happened after the final fade out? Question about sex scenes: So here is my question and I am not sure if it is something you are willing to shed any light on. Sexual orientation aside (because I truly do not think it matters that much to the question) how do actors doing sex scenes not get excited. Body reactions are body reactions and I would suspect that despite the best mind over matter it would still be difficult. I would find myself watching the QAF episodes and thinking "how could they not be getting excited rubbing against each other like that". Scott answers: Well, thanks for being such a big supporter of the show and all my subsequent work, Diane. Unfortunately “...Dixie” may be hard to find as it was a small film and they may not have produced a ton of DVD’s to be sold. As for how actors manage to not get excited during sex scenes I can only speak for myself and my experience on QAF. You need to understand that while you are seeing two people alone getting all rubby-rubby with each other what’s actually happening is that that is a ROOMFUL of people with all sorts of mechanical equipment and lights and microphones moving about in the room during a sex scene and most of them are people you know and have worked with for some time. On top of that most sex scenes (at least on our show) are highly choreographed out so that certain naughty bits can’t be seen. So, given all these distractions and the amount of energy it takes to make the seen LOOK all sexy and hot the truth is the actors are so distracted by all these things that it’s very difficult for the body to have time to react. Question about his weight gain How many pounds did you have to gain for your role in season five of Queer As Folk? Was it hard to lose the weight? What did you eat to gain weight?Mark Daniel via Facebook Scott: Hey, Mark: Well, that was physically tough (and near impossible) story line that the fella wrote me there. Fortunately they did tell me about it shortly before I was going on a trip to Venice, Italy. Now you have to understand I hadn’t eaten ANY carbs for 4 years at that point so the fact that I was now being DEMANDED to eat as much as I could before starting the season was a miracle! So I ate every delicious thing put in front of me over there and I was in Heaven!! Even with all that I probably only put on at most an extra 5 - 7 pounds. Plus, part of the problem (as I explained to the Powers that Be) is that after “Ted” had his plastic surgery I had to be naked in the very next episode looking all liposuctioned and tight and ... well, I wasn’t ACTUALLY going to have that surgery so unless they were going to give me a few months off to get back in shape there was no way for me to put on as much weight as they wanted me to. So, in the end they put a cheap fat suit that a department store Santa might wear on me and I went to a dentist who made me a device I could wear in my mouth to poof my cheeks out a bit. In my opinion it didn’t work out too well and I’m a little embarrassed by the end result to be honest. Boy, that interview on TWoP was such a long time ago (those who haven’t read it can find it here) but I remember being very sleepy when we did it and that Camper was a blast to talk to. We chatted and giggled for a long time. I can’t say I got to know her “personally” but I do know that she was completely genuine, hilarious and that it was, without a doubt, one of the most fun interviews I’ve ever been involved with. It felt more like a comfortable, goofy conversation with an old friend. I think you’re right that everyone’s dancing improved over the years with one exception: ME! Man, I stink. It was tough on all, of course because if there was dialogue that meant they’d start the music but then have to shut it off to record the lines. Try dancing with no music and remembering lines of dialogue and not looking like an idiot. Not so easy, is it? If I improved at all it’s because I just tried to copy Gale’s move. Man, he was smooth on the floor. In real life, I only dance on VERY special and/or inebriated occasions. I can’t quite remember exactly the “breaking the 4th wall” moment. I feel like it was in the diner, is that right? Responding to something “Debbie” said? I only remember that it was a line that SCREAMED to be delivered right to the camera. I did a few takes that way and then a few not to camera in case Dan and Ron hated it. Fortunately they liked it. The “Ted has a secret crush on Mikey” storyline wasn’t really dropped without explanation as I recall. At “Michael’s” birthday party in Season 1 I believe “Brian” lets “Ted” know that they found his shrine after “T” barks at “B” to release “M” from his spell so he can date “Dr. Dave.” “B” tells “T” “I will if you will,” or something like that. “T” then gives a lovely speech to “M” about not waiting around for something that may never come. In that speech “T” is saying move on and live for what is real as much to himself as “M”. It’s in that speech that “Ted” starts to move on. I loved doing that speech for just that reason. BIG growth moment for him. As far as my “positive energy” I just believe as Mother Teresa did that I’d rather be “for” something than “against” it. (She said, “I was once asked why I don't participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there.”) I try to always be grateful for all I have and I hope that is the source of whatever energy I give off. As far as the “cuteness” I can only blame or give credit to genetics. |

Am I being too demanding?Now for your questions: I would indeed consider myself a reliable person but I hope I’m not QUITE as predictable as “Ted” was (at least early on).I have mentioned that whenI first moved to LA my self-esteem took quite a hit because the food chain of physical attraction here was quite different than what I was used to back in Chicago or Connecticut and I was viewed as a big geek by most women here. Although I KNOW that I am a big geek inside I now don’t think ALL women see me that way, I’m happy to say. As far as how “Ted” affected me or changed me I’d have to say that portraying the battles with all his inner-demons certainly helped me realize how foolish a lot of the ones I wrestle with are and that has helped me purge myself of most of them ... not ALL ... but most. |

These are some pretty personal reflections, and I'm glad you shared them with us, Sia. It's perfectly okay that he isn't in a rush to land a wife or S/O (If he hasn't already) and is happy taking care of his little furry babies, and exploring life. That's kind of where I am, too. :)
