Queer as Folk book/novel thread
Okay I finally got the book today. I was packing up some stuff and there was a gift card to Barnes and Noble I got for Christmas woowho.
So feel free to discuss anything about the book here [ 10-09-2003: Message edited briansluv ] __________________

I plan on buying it later this week. I just have so many books to read right now, I have to pace myself
It looks cool though, and I guess the second already has a title. Gotta keep up with all the cool stuff Alison __________________

i'll probably end up getting it soon too. just for the brief cameo by my favorite blond if nothing else.
it does irk me that there are things in the books that directly contradict the actual show, but whatever. i'm taking the books to be very elaborate fanfiction, not canon. if it didn't happen on the show, it doesn't count. want to know what the third book will be about. the second one is Brian in college, so it'll probably have Lindsay in it, but no word yet on the third book. |

I am with you, J, I only take the show to be fact.
Come on Liz, you can talk... just complain with us all about the way nothing follows anything we know Cynical? Me? Nah... Alison __________________

But, like Jamie said, these books are nothing short of fanfic and don't reflect the true 'history' of the show. Hence, why the bracelet stories differ. Cowlip, nor anyone connected with the show, didn't write these books. Some guy did, who wrote his own interpretation of the characters and events. But, as much as I think the concept of the books is stupid, I too wonder what Book Three will be about. Maybe leading up to 101? [ 03-31-2003: Message edited ~ Liz ~ ] |

I've got to say though... I would love it if I randomly wrote the books and made bank

I bought it...read it and liked it.
I didn't really think it was based on the show I just read it like a fanfic. (I think I've read fanfic's that were actually longer!!) Although I thought the storyline was cute--it didn't detract from my love of the show. I don't know how specific we can be on this thread so I'll wait to post some other thoughts....... __________________

i think you can be as specific as you want. pretty much everyone knows what happens in the book, even if they haven't read it.

It is too bad that the bracelet thing is different -again, it would be nice to know that some assumptions many fans have made are actually true. On the other hand, I really don't care. And the real reason why so many wondered if we could take this as a sort of fact is because on the Showtime website it tells us "read where it all began." The second book is said to be about Brian in college? Cool, I guess...considering it is just really long fan fic...lol. Still, I'll read it...read someone's version of Brian and Linday's relationship in the beginning. Maybe the third one will give us a glimpse back (as unreliable as it is) on Ted and Emmett and how they hooked up w/Michael and Brian. I was surprised when Ted said he and Emmett have only known each other for 5 years or so recently...just figured it was longer. __________________

I hate that fcuking bracelet every newbie I meet asks me about where he got it and what it represents and why was he wearing it 24/7, blah blah blah. It was a good book though. I think if you really don't like the B/M friendship, than you'd hate this...obviously. You don't have to be a shipper to read it. My 2 friends are HUGE B/J shippers and they both are eager to read it. The one that is reading it now says she's enjoying it, especially the parts that focus on Brian's home life...and his sexual escapades. That's the other thing that kinds sucks...the parts about Brian's home life. It's nice to think that there was a time his sister tried to reach out to him, she tried to make an attempt. Oh well. [ 04-08-2003: Message edited MichaelsPatience ] __________________

I want to ask why they did that whole Braclet thing, maybe after QAF when there is a showtime chat with the stars or someone from the show. I really want to know why they changed such a great back story.
I have not finished the book, my last day off was last monday and I got about 45 pages read. So I am hoping for a nice book cuddling session tomorrow. __________________

I doubt they'd answer you Shelly, seeing as I don't think the books are very well liked by anyone "official" at QAF. Who do you assume changed the backstory? I see it as two different interpretations. Of course, the one connected with the show is the one I deem most truthful, but to each his own.
