That was definitely an interesting way for them to show popularity, but it's true. There's an aspect of it that really is fake. People are friends with you not for you, but to have a better social status than others.

Then I can really see why she'd love hanging with him, who had always hated her status and image, didn't request to be seen with her, and thus seemed to take to just her, on a more personal level

They're not real friends. You might have one in there that's a true friend, but Cordelia didn't really. I used to always say, and I still say it, I'd rather have a few true friends than a large group that has backstabbers in it. The minute Cordelia did something that went against conformity they turned on it. It's got to feel horrible.

He really accepted things on her comfort level. It wasn't about getting popular by letting everyone know they were kissing and dating. He never, that I remember, pushed for her to tell everyone. She stood up for him on her own. It was genuinely about them truly wanting to be with each other for who they are.

That's actually another way they're kinda like spuffy That he was her dirty little secret, who she officially despised. I do think Cordy handled the "coming out of the closet" with their relationship a whole lot better than Buffy did though

Yeah. She handled it much better, but in Buffy's defense Xander does have a soul.

OMG. that will be after the beginning of S 7, where Spike and Xander has learnt to get along, right?

Could you get Xander to go otherwise? That still would be like watching a train wreck.

It would. It's peculiar that Xander didn't show even more resentment against Spike on the show almost, since he's been somewhat involved (though not to blame) in both of his important breakups First putting him in mortar danger and thus inspire him to live out his passions with Willow just as Cordy comes to rescue him, and then sleep with Anya shortly after he dumped her.

I don't know how Buffy and Cordy would've gotten along then either though.

The Anya thing, Spike got a soul pretty quickly after that and then Spike was made to live with him, so I think Xander really got a taste that Spike wasn't the same as the demon Xander had come to know over the year. But yeah, it is weird that he didn't have issues with Spike basically just holding him hostage. Perhaps Xander actually took responsibility for kissing Willow, because it wasn't just that time it happened. It had been happening on and off, so that aspect of it was sort of him. He just at that point really thought he was going to die, so he was going out on the best note he could. I could see where he would still though place some of that on Spike, because it's human nature to want to rationalize and take the blame off of yourself.

Buffy and Cordy could have been a real show. They never had particularly nice things to say about one another. I'm sure Cordelia would be throwing snippy remarks Spike's way too since her only memories of him are Spike torturing Angel and Spike wanting to kill all of them. Unless it's after Spike worked with Angel and then she remembers him biting her with a soul too.

Yeah, Xander was one of the few who seemed to actually recognise that Spike had a soul now. It must've been weird, but he coped, and seemed to be taking real well care of him while he was going through his soul gain crazy

It may turn out they're the one really getting along on this date, while the girls are bickering

Willow wasn't too bad either. She was pretty preoccupied with her own issues, so we didn't get really any of her insight, but Xander by not making comments and a friendly pat on the shoulder showed how his view changed. Kudos to Nicholas Brendon being able to relay that to the audience so simply.


An unexpected turn of events. Xander and Spike bond while Buffy restrains herself from going Slayer on Cordelia.
