Mystogan was so mysterious at one point, he could have been evil and no one would have known. He used to put everyone to sleep to hide his identity from his guild mates. It could be that he resembles a certain person who was a little villainous at the time, or perhaps it was him the whole time and we've all been fooled. He has strong enough magic to evade anyone who tries to stop him.
