Even if Jonathan would have been okay with it, do you guys think Lionel and Martha would have worked out? Maybe Martha did like him, but I don't think she would have accepted some of the things he did

No.

I liked the potential, but not sure I could have really seen them an a actual relationship.

I can't see Lionel 100% changing too good, somehow, he'll do something to mess it up... but I always felt with Martha, she sort of would be attracted to the dark side at times because it seems Jonathan was why she settled down and became the farm wife. I feel before Jonathan, her and Lionel would've worked.

Lionel/Martha would probably have the same as Lex/Lana cause gonna assume that Lex finally does something bad enough that drives Lana away

I also love the potential and the hint plus the chemistry/Lionel's feelings but I feel it would never have actually worked

humans are creatures of habit which feel is what happens and is true - so Lionel may be good right now where we are in the watch but he would go back to his ways where I feel by end of series something happens that will cause him to be evil

Come on, he went along with Lex's "test" of Lana

that alone shows questionable

I feel exactly like you Sarah. lol I feel Martha/Lionel would've been just like Lex/Lana as well. lol I feel they are really parallel to one another in a way.

Lex loved Lana for such a long time but hide it to be her friend.
Lionel has been into Martha since he first met her, actually was pretty obvious about it. lolol

So, I feel eventually as Sarah stated, he would've done something evil enough to push Martha away so in a way it's probably better that no romance is happening with them.

It's okay for me because it's not like anything will ever come of it but obviously it's feelings there.

I do like the side of Lionel that Martha brings out, and has always brought out. He still comes off evil but just more calm and a bit in love which is very different from the usual typical ruthless pre-planner mastermind Lionel Luthor.
