Lionel found out about the wire that Lex was working with the FBI and than Lex wasn't the fault for Julian but his mother

that was emotional - Lex getting Lionel arrested

I do understand why Lex never told Lionel the truth though.

Because as he said, he would've put her mother through worst than he already did.

Lex knew Lionel really wouldn't do anything that bad to him.
