I'm new to the Smallville board and new to the show. I never took the opportunity to watch Smallville when it was still on the air, but thanks to Tia I've just discovered the show and now I wish I'd watched it when it was still around. Even though it's been over a decade since Smallville was on the air, I now think it's the best DC television show ever made, even better than Arrow, The Flash, or any of the more recent DC shows released by Warner Bros. It also makes me sad that I missed the show when it was still on the air.

Smallville has one of the most perfect casts ever assembled for a TV show. In particular, the casting of John Schneider and Annette O'Toole as Jonathan and Martha Kent gives Smallville its heart and humanity. But it is the casting of the five main leads, Clark Kent, Lana Lang, Chloe Sullivan, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor, that made the show what it is. Tom Welling is the perfect Clark Kent, and the best actor to play the role since Christopher Reeve. His chemistry with his leading ladies - Kristen Kreuk, Allison Mack, and Erica Durance as Lana, Chloe, and Lois - is amazing, as is the dynamic between Tom and Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor.

What I loved was how each of the characters was so skillfully constructed and beautifully portrayed by the actors, and how each had such distinct characteristics that made them so unique and three dimensional. The focus on the characters is what gave this show such heart and emotional depth, that it only enhanced the comic book storytelling, which was also done equally well. I ended up falling in love with all of these characters.

The creators of Smallville clearly loved and respected the source material, and knew about the characters and the story from the comics. Aside from being restricted from using certain DC characters by Warner Bros. film division, this was about as perfect a DC show as I can think of, the only flaw being the decision to relocate the Atlantic coastal city of Metropolis to Kansas, which I'm willing to ignore.

But most of all, Smallville made me fall in love with Superman again. Telling the story of how young Clark Kent became Superman, and all of the experiences that led to him becoming the hero he was destined to become, only made an iconic character even more amazing. I'd like to thank Tia for convincing me to do these Smallville watches with her, which led to me becoming a huge fan of the show. I only regret that it took me a decade after the show ended to become a fan.

I first started watching Smallville back in May 2009. I was looking for a new show to watch and I’m not sure how I stumbled on to it, but I found a site online that had all of the early episodes available to watch. Once I watched S1 and started S2 on there, I knew I had to buy the rest of the show on DVD because I loved it that much. And of course, once my eyes clamped on the gorgeous and talented Tom Welling, it was impossible not to be hooked! I was never a Superman fan before, but I’m glad it was Smallville that introduced me to that universe. I think I may have seen a little of it a few years prior on E4, but it passed me by (no idea why). I have been an active poster on this board since I joined Fan Forum back in 2010 - though it has been a bit on and off due to being busy and especially the early days of posting I was at uni. I'm so proud how everyone rallied at getting the board back when it briefly closed a few years ago, and now it's stronger than ever. I am on a re-watch of Smallville right now and currently on S4. I will never stop watching this show, it will always be my comfort and the same goes for this board. So huge congratulations on not only reaching one huge milestone, but two! 20 Years and 500K posts is very impressive. Always Hold on to Smallville!

"Smallville" is so much more than just a TV show for me! This series has absolutely changed my life, and I will thank Mr. Tom Welling for "ten heroic years of 'Smallville'" FOREVER! Tom's portrayal of Clark Kent is MY FAVORITE, and in more ways than one, he is Super, Man! As the 3in1 of the series, Tom is a scientist in the creation of memory, and these memories will never blur nor fade.

I am grateful that after 20 years, "Smallville" is still around in every way with continued opportunities to interact with the cast at conventions and more, as well as TALK VILLE, which is simply a dream come true.

SMALLVILLE FOREVER!

I am fortunate to say that I started watching Smallville live in 2004 and have not looked back. I have been on this board since 2004/2005 and it has been a very blessed ride. I've been on this board during the lows and during the highs. I remember when the board suddenly closed a few years ago and I was so frustrated because it came out of nowhere and then I was first in line when Cece campaigned to bring the board that never should've been closed in the Smallville board back! Bringing this board back has been one of the best decisions because new fans have found it and old fans have returned and it still is as compelling as it was a decade ago. This show opened the doors for superhero shows and especially Arrowverse. I love that Smallville still has the unmatched 10 seasons. A feat that no superhero show has caught up to yet. I have enjoyed interacting with posters and just having interesting discussions about the characters/couples of such an amazing show. I am so grateful that this board is celebrating 20 years on :ff: and 500k posts!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT (we don't know what year we are celebrating... :look:)

This Smallville board is celebrating 20 or 21 years. This board has had so many ups and downs that even the archive's history is confused.
For this occasion, we will pretend it hit 20 years in the Fall of 2022 and if we are over the 20 years then we are happily celebrating it!

We do know however it has been six years since this board has come back from the dead in July 2016.
Thank you for the huge amount of support and for being here with us for over 20 years on this wonderful journey.

Thank you! Finally happy to be here.:)
No one knows the official celebration date so that's why I put 20+ years.

livstevi21 01-23-2023 10:21 AM

That is a stunning OP Tia! Congrats on 500K and 20+ years for this board! :woot:

I have searched for the opening date of the Tom board, and whilst we have the year the month and date is sketchy. It's hard for older boards to deduce when they officially opened because fewer mods kept track of stuff like that.

Maybe once get a new computer could be up for returning to think we were in 6th season before had my mental breakdown :thud: have the series thanks to Prime which took me awhile before got it back where the other 2 main streaming services save money by using sis's for Disney/Netflix but think Prime wouldn't cause different IP addresses  so tool a bit but got it again
