While the deaths of Cedric & Sirius were sad, I was more upset over Fred & Snape. I guess because they were with us since the 1st book plus Snape was a character I've grown to enjoy in spite of him being really shady at first. So when HBP arrived, I felt so conflicted that he would kill Dumbledore and yet I still liked him in spite of him doing that. Imagine my relief by the time we got DH and we find out that both him & Dumbledore were conniving.

He's got a really sad family story for starters. But I think it still ultimately boils down to the choices he made. He let himself be consumed so much by power and greed.
