my second favorite of them all
the thing about sirius's death was it followed the j.k rowling pattern....the character is subtly involved more with the book so we would get extra attached...and just like that he's gone...genius on her part... |

this is my favorite book of all! it had so many layers and plotlines!
I love Professor Umbrigde. the bad guy on the "good" side. I loved this one line someone said to Harry about her, that "the world is not divided between good people and Death Eaters" |

So very true. Even the so called good guys have bad players.
I do agree with Jo in that this book needed the most editing. It's interesting to look back on the entire series and compare each book in terms of how much of the subplots were explored. This one had the most and Jo regrets that somewhat. __________________

Just that she knows now looking back that some of the plot points could have been trimmed and she didn't do it for whatever reason. Deadlines and wanting to make sure the story was told completely. She might have spent a little more time going back and condensing it so that it didn't drag on for the reader.

Hmm. I dont think I would have liked to miss anything of the plot in that book. Sure, it was so much that it some times gave me a really hard run to keep up with all of it, but that just makes the book worthy of rereading, to make sure i catch more

OotP was my favorite too. It was long enough that it actually felt like the school year had gone by. I wouldn't want any trimming done!

i don't think it needed much trimming either...maybe taken out some of the harry/cho...but not many scenes were unneccessary

re-reading this...I really wasn't a fan of how Fred, George and Hermione assumed Harry would be the prefect over Ron. Well...I mean that it was SUCH a sure thing and Ron getting was so shocking same with the adults thinking it...and that it had to be explained from Dumbledore..not that Ron deserved it more but because Dumbledore felt for Harry. Ron did great things, was just as "obedient" a student and had similar grades to Harry..not much a discrepancy |

Well even when you know two individuals are on equal ground in terms of 'obedience' Ron needed it more. And obviously Dumbledore knew that Harry would have too much on his plate anyway. Sometimes you just have to give it the person to boost their self confidence. Teachers do that all the time.

My point is why did it have to be a given that Harry was the more logical choice and that it was so ludicrous that Ron got the badge...
irked me a bit |

The only thing I can think is that maybe it was because Harry is a more natural leader? Maybe Dumbledore just thought he'd be more naturally inclined toward that role.
If I were Ron, though, I'd definitely feel bad that everyone was so shocked at him being named Prefect - it is really insulting, and definitely doesn't help his jealousy issues with Harry. __________________

If any it also aided more of Ron's jealousy over Harry which we also read about in GoF. But I'm happy that Ron is prefect and not Harry because everyone assumed it was him. It could've easily been Harry but it wasn't.

And I suppose Draco was the only "good" choice from Slytherin. When I first read the book, I wondered why Draco was the one Dumbledore chose as prefect. I guess to keep a closer eye on him since he probably already knew about Draco's tendencies with his family and towards Voldemort.
