I watched a bit of part 2 last night and still don't understand why they had to take out a creature inside Yusuf's eye. Also I stopped watching at the part where Yusuf & Leta were reunited once again so I didn't finish the movie. Part 2 is also available on HBO for me to watch.

Yusuf kept rubbing his eye. Jacob noticed it and then Tina & Newt all of a sudden knew he has a creature in his eye. I have no idea why that creature was there in the first place.
