I wonder why JKR decided to kill them off? Although I think she wants something like what happened to Harry (lost parents at a young age) happen again...

I don't think she did explain why she chose to kill off both Tonks & Remus at the same time but my guess is that she just wants some tragic thing to happen again for the last book (apart from Snape dying too).
