I remember that in BTS, they said they have lot of owls, but they took longer to train and all that.. But some are real and some aren't..

Yeah I remember that too that some owls are real and some are not. Maybe for the outside shots, those were VFX? The ones where we see up close, like that one above, are real.

Unless if they're trained of course but for safety reasons, yes, better to use them inside so they don't fly away.
