HP Debate/Discussion Thread #8: Animagus: Think Crookshanks is one? And Trevor?

Ever wonder about Crookshanks' real identity? Does he seem strange to you sometimes, the way he seems so intelligent, like he knows, man! And there's Trevor, who's always missing, as if he's running away from Neville or something (But why?!). And I know you guys could think of more instances that you'd like to share. Plus, your thoughts on whether they could possibly be animagi!

I also thought Crookshanks was. He's way too clever for his own good. Almost like he knows. But then again, maybe just a cat's intuition.

I don't think Crookshanks is. I think it's more possible he;s part Kneazle.

Trevor I could buy, but he doesn't have a reason to be.

Ben 02-07-2004 01:57 PM

Kneazle? What's one of those?

I'm not sure about Trevor because they can do magic on him, like transfiguration and stuff. They never could do it to Scabbers could they?

Sharon86 02-07-2004 03:32 PM

I always wondered about Crookshanks. Why did he help Sirius in PoA? Thank God he helped him, but why?

According to the HP Lexicon:

Quote:

Kneazle
XXX
Cat-like creature, very intelligent. The Kneazle can detect unsavory or suspicious persons very well and will react badly to them. However, if it takes a liking to a Witch or Wizard, it makes an excellent pet (FB). The Kneazle has spotted fur, large ears, and a lion-like tail.
Crookshanks is part Kneazle (Nr).

Crookshanks is part Kneazle (Nr), which accounts for his unusual intelligence and his ability to identify suspicious characters, most notably Pettigrew when disguised as Scabbers the Rat. (PA) But he also recognizes and disapproves of cheating, judging by the way he stared at Harry and Ron when they were making up answers on their Divination homework (GF14).

I guess that explains Crookshanks . . .

Oh, now I get it. Thanks Din!

I don't know if Trevor is an Animagus, but I do think he is curious. He could be there to watch over Neville, even though he seems very eager to get away from him.

It is interesting though if you read FBaWTFT under Basalisk:

"The first recorded Basilisk was bred by Herpo the Foul, a Greek Dark wizard and Parselmouth, who discovered after much experimentation that a chicken egg hatched benath a toad would produce a gigantic serpent possessed of extraoridinarily dangerous powers."

And I must say, Crookshanks is obviously a Kneazle.

Ben 02-07-2004 10:22 PM

That Kneazle thing is weird. Don't remember that from the books at all. There's so much in there that I never noticed!

Maybe Crookshanks wants people to think he is a kneazle. When infact he is a animagus?!

Gabriela 02-07-2004 10:23 PM

I think that Kneazle idea definitely as some weight to it...there is something very special about Crookshanks though..or at least it seems that way
As far as trevor, I've never really thought of him as an animagus, but it seems plausible. I mean..he disappears for periods of time and JKR has brought Trevor up quite a bit, even though he is seemingly unimportant (hm..sorta like Scabbers to begin with..)

blueangel 02-07-2004 10:46 PM

See, that's the thing with JKR.

Notice that the more important the character, the less we know about them. Like Neville, who apparently, plays a bigger role than we had ever imagined. If he's the back up to Harry, there is a possibility, however slight it may be, that there's someone somewhere watching Neville. Whether it's a good or bad thing, I don't know.

Ben 02-07-2004 11:10 PM

If you link it to the fact that Neville is so important as well then...

Maybe Dumbledore is Trevor! Are they ever around at the same time?

^^^ Wacky ideas.

Ever wonder why you never see Neville's grandmother and Trevor in the same room? *suspicious look*

And Trevor is a bit batty and doddery. Like a Grandma?

Well as far as i remember we've seen Neville's grandma just once so we can't reach to a conclusion with only that
