Yeah, I don't think they met either and her father only knows about Frank. Unless her father had someone stalk Laurel or something so he knows about Wes.

Right? It's all for the shock factor but with no real plot development. Why would Laurel's dad order Wes to be killed? If you don't like the guy for your daughter, tell her, don't kill him.
