It is the darn comics. I dislike how they are handling Spuffy (acting as if nothing happened to affect their relationship in between Chosen & s10) so much that it makes me feel like if I post in a Spuffy thread I'm condoning their current arc.
But I shouldn't punish the good Spuffy arcs because of the bad ones. I definitely shouldn't punish late S7 Spike *perfection* for the thoughts and actions of his future only-partially-canon self. __________________

I don't think Spike realizes that most of the times Buffy has pushed him away or things didn't work between them it is because of a specific thing he has done. He just sees his love for her and doesn't always stop to think "hey, maybe it was this comment or that thing I did that made her think of this other person or incident".

Considering that night meant the world to Spike, it is really surprising he didn't backtrack when he saw she was offended. Maybe he assumed she realized that even though he had many superficial reasons for being happy they finally had sex (doing a slayer, etc.) being in love with her was his biggest deepest reason. Just like how he thought that even though he was accusing her of getting off on being with vampires, he assumed she had a deeper reason for being with him.
