TFTNT.
TBH, I am not crazy about this title. I don't subscribe to the idea of "earning" love. And even if Spike did, arguably, by whatever definition, "deserve" her more, what does that matter? In the end, it's Buffy's choice. Sorry if I'm being salty. I haven't had coffee yet. __________________

TFTNT!
I agree that Buffy is not some prize to be won. They should have said “Spike loved Buffy in ways Angel couldn’t even contemplate.” Or something. Buffy Chose Spike. She wasn’t won. But I digress, the title is fine for me. I can ignore it. __________________

The quote is from like 2003.
I'm not sure if they would have used the same wording now or not. I agree Buffy isn't a prize but Spike had to earn her love based on the writing by Joss. Buffy did choose Spike b/c of what he did to earn her love though partly. __________________

He did prove himself to her. She believed in him.

I really love that line. Buffy feels to me in her heart that Spike can be & do great things. I mean fighting to the death for his soul really should earn him IS a good man though. Spike's mother is the only one that has ever truly believed in him before Buffy. I think the fact he chose to change is the final thing that makes Buffy completely fall in love with Spike. I still like the quote in the title b/c Spike did work hard to be worthy of Buffy. I don't believe that was the only reason. I think she was his inspiration to become a better man. It's mostly b/c Spike started out as a good man. I'm not sure if that good hadn't already been inside him that he could have chosen to change to the extent of wanting his soul back. Then again it was hurting Buffy that was the catalyst to his realization that to not be a monster anymore he needed the soul to be a man. I don't think he wanted to ever hurt anyone like that or do anything evil again & winning his soul back was the only way in his mind to defeat his demon. __________________

I think Spike was always different. He always had a deep capacity to love. So I think it was definitely there
James has even said that Buffy was the only person to come along to inspire Spike to be a better man. Him going and actively seeking to get his soul back to be a better man for Buffy is why in the long run, Spike will always be better for Buffy than Angel in my opinion. __________________

James has said he played Spike too soulful but to me he was really just acting what was written majority. I completely agree with your last statement of course. __________________
