it would be fun to memorize all the lines and then recite the movie. I can do that with certain films.

Someone asked in the previous thread if she loved Brendan. I think that Emily really did love him; you can tell from their scene at lunch before she gets killed that she really loved him, and I think that's why she wanted him to let her go and not get involved in her problems because she knew it would be dangerous, and he would do exactly what he did in the movie. Get himself tangeled in her troubles in order to protect her. She loved him, but I the same time couldn't stand his isolation and over protection of her. It was smoothering and Brendan kinda but her infront of the gun too.

What I never really understood was why he was so protective of her. I mean I get that he didn't want her being used like Kara used him for a lapdog during his freshman year, he did want the change he knew would happen to her to happen. he loved her and wanted to protect her, but I wonder what kind of person was she when they first met? Was she innocent and pure and he introduced her to the likes of Jerr and Dope? or did she already know these people but wasn't so much involved with them? I really wish we would have gotten a bit more of a background on those two, but not knowing is what kept it so mysetrious.

Also about the end Laura tells Brendan that Emily had planned on having an abortion because she didn't love the father. She was going to take her to the clinic, but Em ended up dying before any of that could happen. The going to the the the clinic never took place in the moive. I think Laura said this to hurt him. But which would hurt him more knowing he's the father, but that she didn't love him and he's lost them both? or not being the father, meaning that his precious innocent Emily was really a whore, and killing the illusion he had of her and deeming all that he had done?

I think if he wasn't so overprotective she wouldn't have felt the need to get away from him.

I knew I heard right. Thank you.

I think when Em/Brendan met she was the innocent, naive girl. She wasn't so innoncent in the end, but def. still naive to follow everything Laura told her. So that never changed.
She prob knew of those people but didn't spend time with them.

And Brendan was just protective for no other reason, I think, than just wanting Emily to be safe due to the fact that he loved her. If she got involved with the wrong crowd she'd end up dead and he knew it. Yet everything he did to protect her ended up pushing her away

Do you think Brendan really believed Laura about Emily not loving him? I think he was able to see through the lie so I think what hurt more is knowing Emily and his son/daughter are now dead,

I'm not sure if he believed her or not. Brendan is an engima the only time we really saw him show his emotions is when he finally breaks down for Emily in the bed with Laura and the tears. Anywhoo I'm starting to think it doesn't matter if he believed he or not because he might have known about her being preggers like Laura said.."or maybe you've known all along.."

When Emily alls calls him she tells him it's good to see him and that it's been a while Brendan says yeah 2 months. Emily was three months along, if it had only been 2 months since the break up that means she was pregant while with him...this leads to the question, did he know? Maybe that and the Jerr thing is why they broke up. Maybe he did what he did to find out about who put Em infront of the gun, but also to find out who the father of her child could have been if not him.

hmm. I think it would be more interesting if he didn't know. Cause if he did know, I really don't think he would've allowed Emily to break up with him. With the way Brendan was, he would've been there for her. I think she hid the pregnancy from him so it would be easier for her to get away from him.

I've heard this is an amazing movie, but I never actually took the time to rent it. But now that I know dear Emi is in it I'll have to make time.

I really need to watch this movie again. I thought she was going to keep it because she found out it was Brendans? Because the guy told him that he thought Brendan was jealous because it was his (Dodes) baby and she was going to keep it? Oh well, off to the video store I go.

hmm Dode did say that. I wonder if it was a writing inconsistency or if it can be explained some other way.
Cause she def. never made her way to the abortion clinic when she died. Maybe she told Dode she would keep it but then she told Laura something else - like she changed her mind after a while and decided to not go through with having the baby.
